So purchased the scoot on 23FEB18. Found a vibration coming off the engine day 1, it was a missing cam spacer. Two days later picked the bike up and when I got home my rockers were leaking. Took the bike back and a few days later my fuel and volt gauge are inop. A week later took the bike in for the first service and to install the new cluster. Took her out and the engine stalled. Not like I let the clutch go to fast, it just stopped running. Next day engine light illuminates. Get home run the codes and it’s a u00001 and u00002 code something to do with CAN bus and what not. Is anyone familiar with any of these problems? Is this a lemon?

Dude that sucks. I have not had any trouble with my 17. I was nervous about buying the first year motor. So far so good. It’s sounds lemony to me.

Sorry to hear of problems. I have had 6 Harleys over the years without any such problems. My latest is a 2017 FLTRU which I love.
Did you purchase your's new or used? How is your dealer on assisting you? If new it seems like a "lemon" or a disgruntled employed sabotaged the bike construction somewhere along the line.

Did you buy this new off the showroom in Feb 2018? Was it a dealer demo that was rolled over into sales? I think you have some definite issues here, but I question why there was still a new 17 on the floor, when they have been selling 18's since August of 2017- how many miles were on it when you bought it? Any work done to it prior to purchase?

Brand new scooter? Or one that had a previous owner?

Defects and PO damage tend to be two different issues?

The codes can help with figuring out what's wrong, but we'll need the exact code.

U's are generally reserved for data buss issues. Comm issues between the different black boxes on the scooter.

Purchased brand new. It had the dealer 6 miles on it. It’s in the shop now. I’ve contacted the ownership to see if we can’t trade it or get some massive store credit
Well Done - What the Dealers and MoCo jump into action over is "Inconvenience" and "Brand Reputation" of both the store and Mfg - If you feel the dealer is not doing all they can, call the Mothership and open a case

Good Luck Brother

You'll need to research the lemon laws of your state and determine if the designation is reserved for a number of times in the shop, a number of days in the shop or a combination of both. Chances are, since the bike is under warranty, the dealer is going to push you to keep the bike and claim that all these items are being fixed free of charge under the warranty- it will cost the MotorCo less money to fix your issues vs. scrap a motorcycle and give you another one.

Definitely sounds like a Monday build and I'd question the service department as to why they didn't feel the vibration from the missing cam spacer when they took the bike on their test ride prior to putting it on the sales floor. If you felt it, surely and "trained" technician should have as well.

Sorry for your misfortune, and keep us in the loop as to what happens!

Keep your head up. I know this sucks.

I had an 08 Utra that was in the shop 17 times in 14 months with 48,000 miles. Talked to my home dealership when I was stuck in Conneticut for 3 day's. He talked to there HD rep and I was asked to bring all service paperwork in and rep would look at it. A couple day's later I was told they would buy the bike for what I paid for it. I said "SOLD".

I'm sure this is rare but it was done.

So there computer said it was historic codes and they cleared them. Now riddle me this, I am this first owner, bike has 1,137 ish miles on it in the month I’ve owned it. So in my non tech savvy theory that means the code at one point existed?! They said during the 1,000 service that they didn’t clear it for whatever reason. My point is that at some point that fault came up and now I feel as if they are covering their tracks. Like I said I’m no tech guy, I can turn a wrench all day long, hell I work on Chinooks everyday. So the service manager is going to call Big Harley today and see what they want to do.

Bro, that sucks. Hope you don't get the runaround, although, with one saying they bought the bike back is something to keep in mind. I would call Big Harley customer service and get something started on my own.
Had a problem with the last bike and one of Harley's cleaning products, dealer would not address it so I went to HD, they got in contact with the dealer and had the bike detailed on them! Not as drastic as your situation. Good luck

The cam spacer is an issue that happened at the powertrain factory. But the rest might be on the servicing dealer.

Rocker covers that they prolly had off for the cam work - on them for sure.

The gauges, who knows. Bad part, or damaged during service. Even something left unconnected.

Then you have the cluster replaced, if by cluster you mean the tach/speed head, then the Uxxxx codes would indicate that they skipped or fudge packed the mating of the speedo to the scooter. Or were unable to do so because of an issue with the new head unit and returned the scooter to you anyway.

Might want to consider trying another dealer. Or at least escalating the issues to corporate, so that a service rep is sent out and takes an interest.

Monday Build? What is exactly is that? I'm assuming you are saying workers come back from a weekend and screw things up?

48 K on a 08 ultra and they bought it back? How old was the bike when they bought it back? And when you say "what you paid for it" did you buy it new or used?

Harley ECM doesn't retain historical codes like a ThunderMax or FPautotune. The Harley ECM will keep the engine code on until cleared. If it was historical, you would have seen the engine light and it would have stayed on.

I agree with checking out the lemon law in your state. Plus the fact that the cam spacer was missing from the factory would make me want to turn that ride back in. If they missed that, piece on that ride, what else down the road will you discover and hopefully not while riding 80 mph on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

Good luck and I hope you get full credit and replacement!!

that sucks...ask for a 2018 now.."see what they want to do" sounds a little like a pawn off, diverting them from stepping up...my #1 question I always ask myself, can I trust it?

really hope it all works out for you!!!

Really sorry to hear/read of your issues, I certainly hope your dealer makes you golden. But if I was in your shoes, I would call headquarters and file a claim
