I have a '13 CVO RGC I bought used this year. It originally had a completely stock system with just some Rinehart Racing 4.0" slipons installed. I got a little bit of decel pop on deceleration.

The Rineharts were too loud for me so I went back to the stock pipes and almost all decel pop went away. I then had local HD install V&H Power Duals and SERT but kept the stock mufflers. I did this primarily to get rid of cat heat and add a little power, which it did.

I'm now back to the same amount of decel pop as when I started. It's not annoying me but I'm just wondering if this is completely normal or should I take it back to the HD and have them tweak the map? Should a well-tuned bike have no decel popping at all or is a little bit pretty much unavoidable?

The bike should have ZERO decel pop. The tune is off.

Decel popping is usually a sign of a lean fuel mixture. Also make sure there are no exhaust leaks.

No decel pop on mime after a tune from Doc. Can't say had the same result from Ben's V-Twin in Charlotte. With a proper tune, you should not have any popping.

Question then based on the above responses....

What if I had zero decel popping after my tune and over the last 2 years, I've noticed it come back a little to where now I notice it. What would cause that??? Zero change to anything in the mean time. Tuned with a Power Vision and a Map from Fuel Moto.

Also... what if I occasionally have an upshift pop between 2nd and 3rd gear? Related? Unrelated? thoughts?

My guess is an exhaust leak.

This was an interresting read; I had my RG in a Dyno at the local H-D dealership. It costed me about 500.00 US$ (or about 3.500.00 in local currency). I have a stage 1 kit, SuperTrapp true duals and Klock Werk SS mufflers and running a Power Commander III.
I usually won't argue with a pro mechanic since I'm just a layman but I complained about decel pops at high RPMs when closing the throttle AFTER the tuning. I was told that it's "normal" on a HOG with the dreaded Italian EFI (yes, the infamous Magneti Marelli...). I'm not sure what to believe but I do know that the Delphi is a much better EFI but still I'm not convinced.

I've got Klock Werks SS, Cobra PowerPort headers, Power Vision, with a Fuel Moto AC and tune on my 2015. Runs great, gets 40-42 mpg, but there is deceleration pop. It's gotten much better. Maybe the ECM is learning. My theory is that it is the nature of the Klock Werks.

The way the O2 sensors work you'll probably have to tune the pop out your self if its right when letting off throttle. There's not enough time for them to read and adjust the mixture that fast or in that small of an increment.

@ bucketlisthd – you made me smile with that Klock Werks remark! :)

@ CashMoney – I haven't thought about that; it might be the limit of a piggy-back system rather than a flashed ECM. I ride a "classic" hence no O2-ports and not an option there.
