I need the site knowledge for this one; I bought a dark custom derby and cone cover today. I went to put the derby on and realized the derby cover bolts are torqued to 100lbs? the snap-on T27 I used about broke. Does this need to be so tight? I F-ed the bit up and the bolts are trashed. Before I torque the new bolts I bought , do I need to be so tight?

this is from my 01 manual
Using a T27 TORX drive head, install five screws (with
captive washers) to secure clutch inspection cover to the
primary chaincase cover. Alternately tighten screws to 7-
9 ft-lbs (10-12 Nm)

100lbs???? Not right, most car crank pulley's aren't torqued that tight. 7-9lbs sounds right for the '10's. Just good and snug will get you covered, or if you have a service coming up (1,5,or 10k) the tech should swap them out for you for no charge, and that's because the old derby cover has to come off anyway

after you get the bolts out, before putting them back in (whether new or same) put a dab of anti-seize on the threads. this will save you problems in the future.
