Me and a buddy of mine rode to the Dragon's tail last week (May 21 & 22) from Virginia Beach. We got started on Sunday heading that way in the pouring down rain, he rides a 2011 Wide Glide with a small shield in the front (sucked for him). It rained off and on all day on Monday up there in the mountains but we still did alot of riding and had fun. Did the Dragon's tail twice in a downpour, once to go one way and then had to come back through in order to get back to Maggie Valley without having a 2 hour extended trip in the dark, rain, and twisty roads (not my idea of a healthy time.
Tuesday was perfect weather and the real fun began. We did the Dragon's tail and the Chehola (sp) skyway, plus every other road we could find. It was one of the best 500 mile days I think I have ever had.
Lesson learned: go during the week to avoid the large crowds and traffic. Stay some place other than Maggie Valley (too far away and everything shuts down after 8PM)
Here are a few of the pics that I took up there.
