Knowing what dimensions the shop manual states for drive belt tension (5/16"-3/8" of deflection with 10lbs. of upward force, without rider), my question to all is... does everybody run theirs that tight? Is there an unofficial "looser" dimension that most use or is it more beneficial (i.e. longer belt life) to use the factory specs? I also have a Buell Cyclone and everybody on the Buell forum say they run their Buells' belts "scarey" loose.

Thanks in advance.

Belt

Have always run my belt at factory specs.Never a problem with 2 of them(baggers) with 60K on each. They say a loose belt will deflect too much and snap and or jump sprocket teeth. They are strong, keep it tight to specs.

Ok... that makes sense. Just came in from the garage... was comparing the RG's belt with the Buell's. They ARE totally different beasts! Thanks! :)
