I took my bike over to my friends house next door to do the 1000mi service on it. I finally got done with everything and decided to move it back over to my house and put it up for the night. My friend has a covered cement work area outside of his shop and then packed dirt from there. I didn't have room to turn around on the cement so I decided to back it out on the packed dirt area and turn it around there. I'm only 5'6" tall and although I can touch the ground fairly good I couldn't get the traction on my boots to keep pushing it back on the packed dirt drive. So.... I got off and (number one mistake, put the kick stand up) and started to push it back while trying to turn it. It started to lean and it got past the point where I couldn't hold it any longer and slowly she went down to the guards.

Now... no one around but just me, in the dark area of the drive way. I couldn't even budge it. I turned the handle bars into me and grabbed the saddle back guard and with my butt against the seat, I couldn't start to move it. I tried it again with all my might and it started to move, my legs were shaking as I put everything into it and I got it to come up a little, but it felt like it was going down again. Like a pro weight lifter and trying to save embarrassment from anyone coming out side and seeing me, I finally gave it my all and got it back up so I could put the side stand down.

Didn't look like anything was hurt but my ego! I couldn't tell, but does the mufflers hit when they go down to the guards?

Whew! Still a 100 degrees here in the evening, back inside for a cold one!

Im impressed you got it! I dropped mine a few weeks ago when I forgot to put my gas cap on after filling up and had gas pouring everywhere. My adrenaline was pumping so hard I tweaked the handlebars trying to get it back up and still couldn't do it.
Nice job!

So the story goes, "When you drop it" not "If you drop it" I scooted my a lil to not block the gym door since i park on the side walk ( yea its hot here) and not even 2 seconds later it stood then fell against a cement trash can. I tell you i had a great anger workout that day but in the end i realize shits gonna happen. It's a wear n tear type of item. I feel its just too soon as do you. I know i don't know you but I am proud you have the courage to talk/write about it. Also the fact that you got it back up. They weight a considerable amount more than a Softail. Mine was harder to pull up with the bars pushed forward. i brace my leg on the right side then dead lift or heave it back up. I've seen how you sit against it and lift it up.. I'm scared it would flip back over the other way though. Touch up paint is $37 at the dealership and if its scared pretty bad you can wrap it with a vinyl wrap.

For me not even a week later my drunk friend parked his dirt bike in the garage and either putting it in or pulling it out left a nice Arizona Pin Striping on the opposite side. So I'm gonna either wrap it or have the whole fairing repainted and get the black panel done as well.

846 miles on it and it still has the temp tags =(

Sorry to hear about dropping your bike, but like Lurch76 said, its gonna happen, just a matter of when. If you unfortunately drop it again, try not to lift the bike, which seems like the natural thing to do. After you're properly set up, just lean against it and walk. Its actually pretty easy if you're not trying to lift it.

I have let mine go over as well, once off a lift and into a '57 Porsche speedster, wasn't pretty.
I cant tell you where to find it but my 5'2" wife can stand a Gold Wing back up, GWRRA bunch bet me she could and I lost $100.00.
There are Videos on how to do it.
Once you see it done it really isn't that big a deal to pick one back up. Well depends on the damage.

Just looked over the bike this morning, not a scratch. Lucky the RGU comes with saddle bag guards. You know I have been riding heavy touring bikes for over 15 years now and this is the first time I dropped one. I'm glad I got that out of the way and joined this distinguished club!

Thanks everyone for the replies...

Not so bad.........

I was turning around on my driveway when the rear tire went off the pavement. I could no longer reach the ground with my left foot,(The left side of the bike was facing the street) Once past the point of no return I mustered all my strength to ease it down softly until it rested on something. I kept trying to bring it back up as I maneuvered myself off the seat and to the left side of the bike. I put it in gear and keep the wheel turned to the left and did the backwards walk back up straight and got the kick stand down and got her straight again. Afterward and most importantly, I jacked the bike all the way up and climbed underneath to evaluate the damage, I could only find a few scratches on the left floorboard bracket and nothing else. I still can't believe that's all the damage I could find, maybe because I kept the handlebars turned to the left the whole time but it appears I got lucky.

I hadn't had my 2015 Road Glide for even a month when I laid her over on the left side. I had to stop on a steep incline at a blind intersection, and as I was trying to navigate up and onto the narrow road I lost my balance. The wife was on the back and once she felt like I wasn't in control she bailed off the bike in the same direction it was falling, further "complicating" my recovery efforts :)

I've been riding bikes since 1980 and this is only the 2nd time I've ever let one get over on me. Fortunately (or unfortunately) we were riding with another guy who helped me get the bike upright. I felt like an idiot, but after a week or so I realized that we were lucky that no one was hurt and damage to the bike was minimal. Some slight scratches on the very bottom of my pipes and the very bottom corner of the saddle bags.

As someone posted earlier, it's not if but when........

Have not dropped mine yet, but the wind blew it over on the way to SW this year on interstate 20 in Alabama. Once I took all my luggage off I was able to get it up. Scratched my right saddlebag pretty good. I had saddlebag guards in my garage, just never put them on. Thery are on there now though.

Did mine the very first weekend we had it, in front of about 20 other people. Pulled up to a parking area in the state park, incline, gravel, she went down nice and slow with teh wife and I trying like hell to stop it. Set her down gently, no damage but my pride.

I saw a demonstration in Daytona of a petite, probably 50 year old woman they pulled out of a crowd picking up a ultra classic.
