This is not to throw shade on any company or to start an argument, simply a graphic example that I want to share. This is a full pull on a base map in a bike with a big bore kit, cam, bigger throttlebody, bigger injectors and full exhaust. I only posted to show that while base maps will get you close and rideable, it’s not the safe thing for the longevity and health of you hard earned money and engine. This is to also graphically show how important a full dyno tune is to your investment.

As a point of reference, this is the bike from post #292. https://www.roadglide.org/threads/dyno-pulls-i’ve-done.394901/page-15#post-5030234

Those are some very respectable numbers from a 107". I like it.
This is a great example of where top numbers can be misleading-look where the torque dips, its right where most riders cruise at,and then peaks above 4000.
I suspect the exhaust choice is hindering the torque, and made tuning challenging.

That stupid fucking short exhaust. Not only does it not perform like a big boy exhaust. But you need it for you 20” shocks so it clears the swingarm.

However. He may ride higher in the rpm’s and that dip then don’t matter. To me. It would matter.

This tune is PERFECT for this customer. New rider, so building him a crazy motor wouldn’t be smart. We kinda like the kid.

But 100% that dip is from that pipe. TBR is still a decent pipe for some builds, like softails.

I guessed correctly than. Higher rpm rider. We’ll see how my Andrews 485 tunes out with a full S&S Sidewinder exhaust. Plan is to be at your shop first week in May. Leaving Ohio on April 27th.

So the proper tune netted about 20 each HP and TQ as well as a proper mixture. If this doesn't make your point on base maps, I don't know what will. Just out of curiosity, what is your take on the self tuning tuners? Can they get close at all?

I’m planning on being there the 29/30th. Plan is leave here Saturday be at Murph’s Sunday night or Monday morning. Ride Monday. Tune Tuesday. So far. That’s the basic plan.

An auto tune module like Dynojet’s Target Tune can make it better. However, the optimal way to use Target Tune is to have the bike dyno tuned and then let Target Tune make changes as needed to keep the bike at its best.
An auto tune module will not be able to compensate / adjust for a big bore kit and a cam if you are trying to start from a base map.

@RFG7680 Cool. Hopefully the bike will be done by then. Still not sure on timing of painter or wheel/tire set. If Rolando can't find me wheels that will arrive in time, I may have to just stick to the wires for now. I should be able to be there and ride Monday and travel on Tuesday.

My 110" is very similar in build with S&S 585 cams and my numbers are identical (slightly higher)
