This is the bike I will be converting. It’s a 2003 FLHT with 95in S&S kit, 570 gear cam drive, upgraded electrical system, S&S type E carb and other mods. I bought it new and have been working on it ever since. I am looking forward to the challenge of this conversion. I know I will need the help of the brothers on this forum. I have done most of the mods on this bike so far and feel confident I can pull this off.

Sounds like fun. Which year fairing and stuff are you going to use? I know you will have wiring issues to deal with, but i'm sure you will figure everything out. Good luck to you.

Nice bike. I don't think the fairing conversion will be as difficult as some think. Most, if not all of the wiring should already be there, and then you're down to the proper brackets for the fairing.

Make sure you buy the 2010 -2013 fairing mounts or you won't be able to use your current lowers. Good luck in your mod.

Welcome to my mess

:pThis part is not to bad. I’ve done this before when I painted it..a couple of times.

Couple of hours and it’s off..

While I was doing that some of my parts came in. The mounting bracket, internal bracket and the headlight assembly..

The mounting bracket I ordered was for 98-13 years. Hope it works:confused: I can already tell my forks will have to be removed to get the mounting bracket bolt in because their long and go they go all the way thru.

There are 2 types of fairing mounting hardware. 1. 2009 back 2. 2010 - 2013 . The 2010 up will lift the rear of the fairing up an inch or so. If you look close , the 2010-2013 fairings are tilted compared to the 2009 back. The later are inerchangable with the older.

Don’t know why it posted twice. Maybe a moderator can remove one of them. After I posted, my fairing came in. On initial mock up it looks like it’s all going to fit. I will post pics tomorrow.

Something eludes me, but there is something about the holes in the frame, like an aluminium plug or something that must be removed.
No need to remove the forks. And I do believe the radio carrier, holder , mount whatever is the same between EG and RG.
I did this to a 2010FLHTK in 2010.
You need the 2010-up stands on the crashbars.
the wiring harness at the switches ( spots, cruise, radio speakers etc) needs to split to accommodate the different layout. The switches themselves will transfer, just figure out the brackets.
After disconnecting al the wires, which you have religiously marked and fotographed, use masking tape to tie them in a tight bundle to get through the RG fairing bracket hole.
You can get an inner and outer fairing set cheaper from China Same thing. and painted black.
All the gauges will transfer, just sort out the wiring.
Get the bullet type RG indicators, I think the wiring plugs will work, but I don't remember.
Get Softail rear bullet indicators to match the front.
You need the dash for speedo and tach and the pod to hold them.
There are many little things which I don't remember offhand, suffering from CRS, but Ill help if you ask.
Andre.

What year fairing are you going to fit? The frame changed again in 2014(?) and the 2010 stuff will not fit. The fairing changed in 1998 and stayed the same till the Rushmores.
I do still have a list of part numbers which I had to buy.

I’m buyin stuff for 98-13. I got the cheaper China fairing but they are thin and the fitment is poor. Gonna take some work to make this fit right. I’m using an internal bottom mount so I won’t need the brackets that mount to the crash bars. I got the mounting bracket on and I did not have to remove the forks like you said. That was a relief. I’ll just have to work out the wiring as I go.. thanks for your input and I will more than likely have questions later.

Got the faring kind of mounted today... At least it all seems to be fitting ok.

Will have to file a little to clear my lowers.

I’m not liking the China fairing at all. I scored a good OEM inner fairing off Craig’s list. Now to find an outer fairing. I can use the China stuff for mock up while I’m working out all the wiring and other stuff and painting the OEM parts.

I got the radio caddy I ordered today. It has two hooks where the outer fairing hangs on. When I put it on and put the fairing on I noticed the fitment wasn’t as bad as I thought. If it wasn’t so cheap sounding and thin I would use it. I think I can use a heat gun and reform that to fit. There’s also a rubber trim that goes between the two that should fill some of the gap.

Got the headlight mounted today. Starting to look like a Road Glide now .Or should I say ElectRoad Glide?
