I (as guess we is better just in case the better half reads this someday) bought my oldest son his first bike when he was 16. It was a sharp Suzuki intruder. He rode it for a couple seasons then was basically given his grandpa's VTX. Technically he bought it but the price was so good it basically was given to him. Shortly after he decided he was more into speed and has been riding crotch rockets for a couple years. I wanted him to ride for many reasons. I think riding makes you a better driver. We used it as motivation to do well in school. And selfishly I was hoping it would allow us to spend time hanging out as he was at that age where hanging with dad wasn't happening very much. Even though we didn't ride together much I have a few memories. He told me on father's day he wants to sell his rocket and get a shark. He's almost 21 now and has a serious girlfriend. He wants a bike he can cruise and be comfortable on. I may be getting my hopes up but maybe my dream of riding with him more will come true. How awesome will it be to roll with my son in a school of sharks!!!! He won't have a ton of money to spend but I think we will be able to find him a solid bike to start the mod process.

Or you can sell him yours and get yourself a new one ?

Riding with your son will be great. I can't wait to be able to do that.
Wish I was in a position to do that!!!!He couldn't afford mine and I can't afford a CVO so we are where we are. Plus the colors on the 15 CVO's didn't grab me the way mine does. You know how when you see that car/bike/house that you feel was made for you? That's how I feel about my bike so it may be awhile before I am ready to give her up.

Understand where you are coming from; when I ride with my son I call them magic moments. However, they are too few and too far between times we can ride. Life's just busy sometimes.

.......... good for you, Bleachy, getting your son into riding.... even if there was a selfish ulterior motive ;)

Riding with your son is a wonderful feeling,my son got his MC endorsement before he had his drivers license,he to migrated to the sport bike side, but in 07 him and i took a trip to Natural bridge KY he was riding his moms Street Glide,it was a great time for both of us.He has since sold his bike and gotten into Hot Rods, with two sons of his own now, there's more room in his Mustang GT than a bike.

Riding with your son is the absolute best. Having the wife and others along is good don't get me wrong, but bonding with your son on a bike is .... Awesome! just my son and I rode to Myrtle Bike Week this year and nothing can describe it.

My son is 14 yrs old and we ride dirt bikes together 2x per year in the trails of northern Michigan. Riding together is some of the best times we have shared. The end of July I'm taking him on a 7,000 mile cross country adventure and can't wait to one day ride together to the Pacific Coast. I hope it works out for you both to be riding (in my opinion) the best bike HD makes which is the RG!!!

This last Christmas I bought my son a helmet, jacket, and Riders Edge course. I bought myself an extra bike, a 2006 Sportster, so that I had one to lend. (Gotta keep the control of the bike ya know.) My son has been riding that bike and we have taken several rides together. Here next month he will be riding my wife's RG with me to the 2015 Anti-SW in Big Bear. Words cannot describe how much I enjoy the fact that we can spend time together doing the things that we both love.

Best of luck on finding the right Shark for your son!

I can't wait for the day that all of my sons are able to saddle up along side me. We have five teenage sons total, so it may be a while.

That's awesome. Lets hope that he pulls the trigger and gets a shark! My dad was a lot like you, he started me riding when I was a kid on dirt bikes, when I got to be old enough to ride a road bike I purchased one. It was a crotch rocket and I only rode with my dad a few times since I was into racing and doing stupid things with a motorcycle. About 10 years ago I bought a road king from my pops so he could buy a new ultra classic. We have had more fun and made all kinds of memories together. Buying his road king was the best thing that I ever did. Me and my dad work together but we stay so busy throughout the day that we see each other in passing around the office and whatnot but when we ride we have the best time cruising around making memories. This last fall I had to sell my road king, she was my baby, but I had modified it so much that it was not a comfortable bike to ride and my wife(and me) were not too comfortable for a ride much farther than across town, so I traded her off on a 2015 shark. It is by far the best bike I have ridden. It handles like a crotch rocket and with a few mods they get pretty quick in the seat. I hope that your son gets off the rice burner and joins you cruising down the road. There will be great times to be had.
