I tightened the final drive belt to spec. today. But something I always seem to have problems with is keeping the the cam on the right side tight against the boss when I tighten the castle nut to spec. Is there any trick to that or am I doing something wrong? I now have about a 1/8 inch gap or less.

I have the same issue / question; snug the nut down and it's set, torque it and the right hand cam moves down - thought about flipping the cam over - anyone else ever do that?

Try putting some anti-seize on the nut face where it contacts the adjuster.
This is what the manual recommends. Always works for me.
