Looked for a firearm/handgun section, or a place to pose a question...…..Does RG.Org not allow or has it just never come up?

Here goes, I have several handguns I have owned for 40+ yrs and decided to buy myself a new birthday present. Did all the paperwork for the state and received a phone call this morning to come to the PD to pick up my permits. Been shopping, now Iam torn between the Sig P320 and the H&K VP9. I see both can be customized to fit my hand with optional backstraps/grips. Was looking for first hand experience with either, to make an intelligent decision. Or I could just purchase both......

So in your state where you have to apply for a permit just to purchase a firearm ? WOW, THANK GOD for gun friendly states, where you can walk into any gun shop and buy on the spot providing you pass the background check, as for your choices both are an excellent carry piece, If you can carry and seeing that your from the peoples republic, that right was taken away from it citizens.

Can't help you make that decision. Either one will get the job done.
Started shooting when I was a youngin' and kinda backed off when the kids came along.
Bought a few rifles & shotguns over the past several years and shoot more in the winter when I don't ride as much.

I say buy 'em both!

Thanks for the replies...….

Yeah Jersey is crazy stupid about firearms. 10yrs ago I went to buy a pellet rifle to chase the deer out of my yard and couldn't, because I didn't process a NJ firearm permit...smh:nerd: RecentlyI finally decided to do the paperwork to apply for the permit to buy a rifle/shotgun. Now to buy a handgun is another required permit. The dumbass's in this state elected this liberal Gov and he is working to make things next to impossible regarding handguns, hence me getting my ass in gear with the permits. I now have 3 handgun permits in my possession, good for 180 days. Looking at a 9MM, a 40 cal and a Kimber (Don't have any use for the Kimber, but have always loved them)

I was born and raised in Fla, where you just walked in and purchased whatever...I use to spend many weekends at the range, hell we use to have weapons days at work, where everyone would bring your handgun in to show off....Good ole days
Anyway, Work took me up the east coast and I settled in NJ as work was plentiful. Bought a home and now with the way the market turned, kinda stuck. Just making the best out of the situation.....as I have a group that rides into Penn weekly, usually 275-300 mile lunch runs and I also belong to a drag racing group, though not as active anymore, and I am joining a group that shoots weekly
**Forgot to add, unless your an ex LEO, the chances of getting a carry permit are slim and none**

Hi Bruce; as already mentioned - if you can afford it get both. I mean SIG SAUER and Heckler & Koch are both outstanding, high quality pistols. I would say they are like BMW and MB – either way it's money well spent! ;D
I own a SIG SAUER P226 and the H&K P30 (both 9x19mm) because I prefer hammer-fired rather than striker. I personally like the trigger pull on the hammer better than the striker.

BTW in the Armed Forces we have the Glock 17 (9x19). It's an okay striker-pistol but it's nowhere near the P226 (a SEAL-team favorite) or the P30 when it comes to precision! IMHO

My EDC in summer is a VP9SK, winter or riding is a VP9. You absolutely cannot find a pistol with a better fit for all sizes of hands. The P30 is the same frame, just hammer fired. Everything about the VP9 is great, both sizes shoot like a dream, and adjusting the grip size takes minutes, much quicker than the P320.
That being said, the 320 is a great gun, shoots and carries well. The standard size grip is medium, and it's a bit more "duty" sized than the VP9.
You can't go wrong with either one. I love my HK's and SIG's almost as much as my Shark, but the better carry gun is one of the VP9s.

These Two Brands Always Make Me Want To Look

Great looking weapons and seriously, can’t go wrong either way

I suggest finding a retailer where you can test them out

Then your making the right decision for what’s best for you between the brands

Sig and H&K both make excellent weapons and you certainly can’t go wrong with ether. Personally, my handgun of choice is a Walther PPQ because it fits in my hand so comfortably. However, I also shoot a Springfield XD and do so much more accurately. With that said, I totally agree with Swomack, who suggested to find a range that offers both guns of your choice and put a few rounds down range. Shooting them both is really the only way you’ll truly know which you prefer. Hell, just buy them both. It’s my opinion that guns are like bikes and he who goes through life owning the most wins.

If you have the funds to purchase both, there's not much of a discussion that needs to take place. If you end up favoring one over the other, your resale will treat you right on the one you chose not to keep. I carried a Sig P229 everyday for 6 years on patrol and I have a soft spot in my heart for something that's so accurate and so reliable. Also really like the smooth DA/SA action- every trigger pull HAS to be deliberate and smooth and the round goes exactly where you expect. That said, one of my favorite rounds is a .45 cal and the HK USP 45 is another that is absolutely on the top of my list of go to weapons.

You can't go wrong with either one. Reliability will be solid on either- I would just hold both and slowly cycle the action, pull the trigger. See which one feels better in your hand and/or has a cleaner trigger pull in your opinion.

Let us know what you decide!!!

Lots of used 320s on the market, not so much for the HK. That tells me that the HK owners are not selling/trading them off as quick. Must be a reason. I myself am a huge CZ fan and like everyone of them that I own. I have their striker fire P10C that is right up there with all the others in that class. The other ones are hammer fired and I don't have enough room in this post to rave about them. Good luck with your choice.

Unfortunately, I can't offer an opinion on either of the two pistols you mentioned. However, I'm another that prefers the hammer DA/SA to a stiker fired gun. I do have a pair of the first gen PPS, that I'll carry from time to time, but for the past couple of years now I've been carrying a CZ PCR. I have yet to find another handgun that fits my hand as well.

My sister lives in NJ. I haven't been to her house in a long time. The law allows me to transport through NJ (which if I can avoid going through I do) but the moment I stop I become illegal. I can't see a good reason for not carrying in all the states between her and I, that my permit is valid in, just so won't have the weapon with me in NJ.

Just an FYI for anybody that's interested. Just after NY passed the SAFE Act, I planned a trip via motorcycle to RI. I would need to pass through NY to get there, so I wrote the NY State police asking how to legally transport on the motorcycle. They told me to lock the gun in one bag and lock the magazine and ammo in the other. They also said there was now way around the new "high" capacity magazine size limit. If I were caught with a mag that could hold more than 7 rounds (I think that's now been upped to 10; not sure) I'd be arrested.

Seeing as you are next door to NY, you may want to inquire about available magazine sizes for the pistols you are looking at.

Both are great pistols! Like it was said before, if you can afford both, buy both. Personally I favor the Sig. I think it’s a little more versatile in the sense that you can buy caliber exchange kits. You can also buy different size frames and go from a full size to a sub compact if that’s something you’d be interested in doing.

Both have good triggers, but the edge goes to the HK for sure.

Again, both are very good quality guns.

Thanks again everyone, this is what I am looking for, first hand experience rather than what you heard....LOL
NJ is limited to a 10 rd magazine now, but with this new joker for a governor Iam afraid that wont last, another reason for me to purchase now.
I should have added that I fired both, first the Sig and after raving about it, my buddy said lets go shoot with mine. That's how the VP9 entered into my decision. I use to own a Glock 19, so I am familiar with the striker fired. I'll look into throwing some lead with that Beratta, but first a 9MM.
Up early today, feel like a kid at Christmas, gun shop opens at 9AM......Woot!!!!

Oh how I DO NOT miss living in New Jersey!! Get a NICS check at the gun store and then wait 2-3 weeks for the local or State Police to do the exact same check! Having to wait for my friends to get calls or a letter from the police where they have to attest to the fact that I'm a "good guy" before the police can give me a permit to buy a gun. I moved 5 miles away from New Jersey in PA. No taxes on pensions. No wait to buy a gun. And law-abiding citizens ALL have the right to a carry permit.

I knew it would get to Glock hating before page 2. C’mon out with it Smitty. Why anything except Glock? What if Glock fits a persons needs?
Agreed. A Glock might not be your preference but nobody can deny they are well made, reliable weapons. Glock 21 is my favorite full-size gun.
