I'm going to do some motor work this winter and can't decide if I should do the Fuel moto 107" big bore with CNC heads or the HD stage 4 kit. What are the pros and cons of each? It looks like they will be about equal cost to install. I'm in MN so WI isn't an issue getting my bike to FM. Looks like the FM will give just a little more power. Interesting the Hd kit has larger throttle body, but the FM doesn't. Also, I think the HD costs for dyno would be more. FM install costs include dyno tune.

FM 107 hands down. More power/torque than the HD stage 4 any day. One of the best customer service in the business. Great parts and great people.

1st, I know almost nothing about either one of these builds. However, If your bike is still covered by the MoCo or and ESP warranty, I'm betting the HD Stage IV will also be covered in case of failure whereas the FM will not. If the FM does warranty their build it may still invalidate the remainder of the ESP on your bike. Better check both company's for their guarantee's and read the fine print! If this isn't an issue for you then go with FM. It seems very few people on this blog have many good things to say about the MoCo and a few have paid for a stage IV kit only to find out the jugs weren't really replaced, or the head work wasn't really done or the lifter pins were left out ect. Bottom line Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware. Good luck and keep us posted regardless of what route you take.

The ''warranty covered stage 4'' which is not the race kit will not pull much more than an after market camshaft alone, i do not see the point on spending that kind of money on a moco kit my 2 cent. For the warranty no matter the route (performance) you take the MOCO will not stand for the warranty so who care, unless you are welling to spend alot of $ for little performance at that point a S&S 124 will be cheaper and way more reliable WITH A WARRANTY. If you are afraid to loose your warranty you should leave it stock and get a vglide at that point ;-).

The HD stage 4 kit isn't even in the same ball park as the FM107 kits. The FM107s make so much more torque across the board its not even funny.

Do the FM107. You'll get premium aftermarket parts and a great tune.

I've had my FM107 for three years and 15,000 miles. It runs perfectly.

Stay away from the Harley kits, You will get more performance from FM or Hillsides kits hands down. On the comment with 124 that is a much larger expense. What you have to figure out is what is important.. Harley will not warranty a race motor and thats what a stage 4 kit is..

It is best to figure out where you want to be at horsepower and torque at, it is better to do this once and be done..

If i was going to do it all over again i would go aftermarket. I bought the Stage IV race only application and had it installed before taking posession of the bike. I gave up my warranty on day one.

I havent had any reliability issues with the kit, the bike is plenty fast and you can see my 1/4 mile times in my signature, that was before the Barnett clutch, i think i can pull better ETs than that now with some more seat time and the new clutch.

The cam may be a bit long for certain people's riding styles but in my opinion thats just a preferance. The bike likes to be ridden over 3000 rpm to have any real scoot when you whack the throttle.

Again my choice would to be aftermarket, the harley kit is noisy in the valvetrain and I'm sure the SE heads dont flow as well as a set that have been properly re-worked.

Part of the reason for having HD put that kit on when i bought the bike is that i rolled it all into the financing a brand new bike. In retrospect i would have bought a used bike with a high milage motor and pulled it for a big inch motor and done the swap myself.

I have to agree with everyone else. I had the stage 4 installed last winter. I asked about the warrenty. My dealer said they would stand behind it. The bike definitely runs better. But I'm going to be looking about redoing it in another year.

My HD stage IV was a big bust and a waste of good money so the FM kit would be the better way to go. I don't have any personal experiences with the 107 FM build but the kit gets good reviews from forum members.
The TB size isn't that big of a deal your stock TB will provide plenty of air and fuel and probably lead to a smoother more responsive bike at lower RPM.
The HD dealer that puts in the stage IV will always tell you that they will stand behind their work and it won't affect your warranty and that may be true at THAT DEALER but if the bike breaks down on a road trip and you go to another dealer the build will be reported to the MOCO and the warranty or ESP is gone.
For the average rider on a touring bike a 103 with intake and exhaust upgrades and a good cam will make plenty of power and be a good dependable ride. JMO

I went fuel moto, i ordered it last Thursday, it showed up this Tuesday. I decided to install myself, met a guy on the forum who is providing the specialty tools and giving a helping hand with the install. Since I am installing myself, I had a few extra coins to spend on Level B Head. I can't wait! Install starts next Friday! I wish I lived near Fuel Moto, I would have let them do it all for sure. Driving out there would be hard, I got back in school again so that wasn't going to work. The hardest part is seeing the stack of parts in the corner and thinking about the torque:eek: I feel like a kid and its a week before Christmas!:rolleyes:
