Hey guys I just got my new FLTRXS this past week and quickly realized that I should have put a new shield on it when I bought the bike when I had them do all my other accessories!! Anyway, it sounds like the going trend are Freedom Shields so I am going to give them a try but was curious which model I should go with; touring or sport touring? I live in the desert SW currently but am hoping to do some regional and cross country rides as well. That said, I would really appreciate current owners feedback on the model type you are riding and why.

Thanks in advance

I just got a 14" touring shield from them for my sturgis trip. I t was a bit hard to install following the directions. I looked on here and found guys were starting on the outside of either side and working around to the other side. That worked great. I'm very impressed with the shield it cut my wind noise on the hiway down to an acceptable level. I've never tried the sport shield but I'm happy with mine. Lots better than the HD windsplitter I tried before I bought this. He gives a nice discount on the shield also. It's like getting free shipping.

I have an 18" touring, but only because they introduced the sport touring about two weeks or so AFTER I took the plastic off. Had I known it was coming I would have waited. It's considerably thicker than both the stock windshield and the Long Ride Shields "Stingray" that I also bought, and definitely has better clarity and fitment than the latter. The sport touring looks better than the touring IMO. Nice thing is you can try one, and as long as you leave the plastic on, you can send it back if you don't like it and try the other one (or if you can afford it, buy both at the same time and then send back the one you don't like).

The sport Touring shied has a cutout on the outsides that give it more flair, it also is a must for fitting taller bars. (Do any bar/seat changes prior to purchase of Shield)

Email John for further details, give him your measurements and seat height he will get you started on sizing.

I have had both. I started with a dark tinted 16” Sport Touring. I loved the looks, but found that my Russell Day Long seat put me just a little too high, so we were still getting more wind and rain than I wanted. I ran it for a year, then decided to move up to an 18” Touring with no tint. I’ve been running that ever since.

2x on talking to a John @ Freedom Shields if you have any questions. He knows his stuff.

BTW, I’ll make somebody a deal on the Sport Touring shield!

Thanks so much for the picture that really helps. I think with my bars I’ll have to go the sport touring route. I also sent John an email with pics of bike and my measurements as well. Thanks again...once I get my shield I ‘ll be sure to finish this thread off with a pic.

John is a very good guy to deal with, he’ll answer all your questions. I’ve got his 14” touring on my 15, medium tint, love it !!

Great shields, I have sat behind mine for 5000 miles now on my 2019 I collected 4 months ago and I love it. I have 10in mini-apes and a 13in Touring shield. Never rode a bike with any kind of fairing before (I am 57) and I was a little worried that the full Touring shape might be a bit ''too much fairing'' ... but not at all. A real asset as I commute 100 miles a day through our relatively mild winter down here. I threw the stock shield in the bin at the dealership when they took it off to fit the Freedom Shield.

I went with the 14" Touring with the mid tint on it. This is my third touring shield and it just works well. If I did it again Id get a 15" or even a 16" shield. I have 16" Factory 47s and a Corin Solo seat. it all works well together.

Ended up going with the 14” Sport Touring model and love it. As others have said the Freedom Shields really are remarkably thicker then any aftermarket or OEM shield I’ve seen. I was on the fence about the 14” shield since I ‘m 6’4” with 36” inseams, but I had zero buffeting and loved the ride down the interstate at 70+ with music at only 2/3 volume through stock speakers and could hear perfectly. Love the difference it made to my comfort while riding at highway speeds.

The key is to look over not thru. I have a 13" FS touring shield that I use to tour with. I'm 5'10" and use a HD Hammock seat.

I have the dark tint 14” Sport Touring Shield and while I can look through it if needed my normal view is over the top of the windshield. I measured from just under my nose to the top of the shield which resulted in zero buffeting and significantly reduced wind noise. I haven’t tried closing the vents on either side of the headlamp yet but I ‘m assuming that will close off even more wind.

14" sport touring. 3rd touring bike with Freedom Shield coverage. Great product, well made, durable and customer service is excellent.
Nice looking bike - I like it a lot.

All this talk of these shields now has it put on my 'winter to do' list. I currently have an 11" LRS shield that I have never been fond of the fitment or quality

Ive got both, Rode with the regular for awhile, then recently picked up a sport...was very surprised that the sport one gave me better air, much smoother.

I went the 10" dark touring. I wanted to cut the wind noise and still see clearly over it. I still get air but without so much wind noise. It's not silent but this is my only addition. Radio volume defiantly lower than is was before. Mine seem to have a little cloudiness on it after removing the plastic only visible in the light before installing. Called John to talk about what I was seeing and he recommended using a fine polish that I had on hand and that took care of it. What impressed me most was he said he will make it right either way. Customer service like that is a thing of the past with a lot of places. Great product and excellent service!
