Frustrated at this bike/dealer.

In March of '14 I had a leak. Dealer in Florida did a main crank seal, starter seal, and several other seals for $600.

Leak started again once back home within 1000 miles. Local dealer did the shifter shaft seal, starter seal again, and a few others for $500. The starter seal rolled going on so it leaked again right away so they did it again same day for free. This was in April of '14.

Leak started again this April. Last week I took it to the same dealer. They found allll kinds of stuff. They didn't have all the parts so they gave me a car to drive 5 hour round trip to go buy parts from 2 other dealers. I was stuck there anyway over an hour from home so I didn't mind the driving too much. Took 9 hours there altogether.

They changed the starter seal, clutch seal, primary chain, clutch hub, inner primary cover, stator, and misc other things in there. They worked with me on price sunce they missed things last time, and my bill was about $800 this time.

That was 3 days ago.

ITS LEAKING AGAIN!!!

They are closed today so I can't call till morning. It doesn't help that they are over an hour ride from me and I know they are very busy. I put less than 100 miles on it.

I'm pretty upset. I can't afford for them to go on a fishing expedition. Heck I couldn't afford any of the last stuff to be honest. Of course they wanted to sell me a new one so they gave me a low ball of $9000 for mine towards a '15 fltrxs.

Does anyone have any clue why this drip still leaks under the derby cover area? Or what I should do? Something just isn't right here.....

For what its worth, the bike is a 2010 rgc with a stock 96" in it, and has about 39,900 miles on it.
We need more info in order to make suggestions. A photo would be nice.

This might sound silly but check your left rear shock. I had a shock leak and the oil dripped under the primary and had my dealer stumped for a day. Might want to check your left rear shock. Good luck.

Here's a pic with the outer primary off I got at the dealer the other day. The leak appears to be primary fluid again that drips off the lower most bolt off the primary.

+1, I had a shock go and ith oil leaked, traveled down the pipes, and dripped order the primary. Smoked liked hell when the pipes got hot.
Mine doesn't smoke. I will surely check this but doubt its the issue because the leak does stop for a little while when they replace everything ha.
Where exactly is the leak? Can you take a detailed photo of the leak itself and not just one of the disassembled bike. Seals don't just leak without reason. There may be a burr at the sealing area. The shaft that is leaking may be out of round or have a wobble in it as well. Meaning that the seal is failing over time, not because of a bad seal, but because of a bad shaft or bearing. It could seal initially but wear out quickly. Replacing seals would be a temporary fix until the real issue is addressed.
That's why they changed the inner primary, they thought the starter was seating properly.

If you are looking at the left side of bike, it drips off the last lower primary bolt just behind the derby cover but in front of rear peg.
Sounds to me like it's an inner primary input seal for the mainshaft of the transmission. Have them replace the seal and check the runout before they assemble it. I'd also replace the bearing and race just as preventative measure. I doubt that it's the starter o-ring as that doesn't move. The race could have a burr or even a microscopic edge that is tearing up the seals.

I doubt that it is the transmission seal because the drive sprocket and transmission look dry.
They just did that inner primary shaft seal he other day. I'll e sure they check it again
Have them check the oil pan bolts. Sounds simple but the Dealer did several repairs on my wife's bike to stop some leaks.

The initial visit consisted of Inner Primary seal, race inner bearing, stator, shift shaft seal, chain tensioner. The Bill was $1200. I picked up the bike and it was ridden about 200 miles. Still leaked and made noises on the Primary side that weren't there before.

Next visit they discovered the Clutch Hub, bearing, basket, inner primary and race were damaged. They fixed all under a "Warranty Claim". This is a term they used because in my opinion they had done some shitty work. We took the bike straight home and it STILL leaked.

I took it back again and told them they needed to keep it for a few days after the repairs were completed. Told them to make sure it wasn't leaking the next time I left with it. They called me about a week later. They claimed loose bolts on the oil pan. Now that might not be what it was but it isn't leaking anymore.

I only paid the original bill. On the other visits I made it clear the leaks were what brought me there in the 1st place.

Sounds like we've had very similar issues!

I'll ask about the oil pan.

My only other thought is that the bike has an aftermarket starter, but that shouldn't matter I wouldn't think, it seals nicely,
FWIW.. I just traded in a red 2010 RGC with 16500 miles and I got $12,500 with $500 for mufflers (picked V/H Propipes and had to cover $200). So in essence I got $13,000.
If you ask them to check the oil pan bolts, they will simply replace it as the next fix....
Good luck with this issue. Too bad you couldn't take it to another dealer without being charged again.

I agree,
or if the race "walked". I know it was common with the older 5 speeds.
Check the starter. I have seen a few aftermarket starters leak and pass through the starter and run out the vent in the housing. The oil will run down the back of the trans on the primary side.
Sounds promising.

I don't mean to be "tough" with them, but I'm about done shelling out money. They've been inside this engine too many times to keep missing something. I'm pretty much expecting this for free at this point. Its hard enough to burn a day getting it up there and back.

What dealership are you using? Just curious...
