I'm in the process of installing the HD garage door module in my 17' RGS and I got the harness that's required to go under the kickstand side panel and I couldn't find the plug where this harness plugs into so as usual I ha e to check you sharks and get your feedback. I'm also not looking to start a new thread on a worn out topic but if anyone has done the garage mod on their 17' RGS or RGU love to see how and where details how you did it as a secondary option since I'm not a big soldering guy but would like the feature of just flipping the light switch to do the same job as the HD unit works. Thank you all sharks in advance !!!!!

Are you trying to hook up the accessory wire harness and the switch pack next to the speedo/tach? Give me the harley part #'s of what you are working with and I will try to help. I put the switch pack, harness and garage door kit on my '15 last week.

Well here's the update to my quest and apparently the 13' and older unit will not work due to its 4 wire like the Harley instructions state. So I bought the 3 wire version for our bikes which is 14' and newer and got the power from the violet and black wire above the right side speaker. Only dilemma now is my garage door motor may not work with it. Will keep you guys posted as I figure this out. Also found a website which sells the Harley garage door setup without the Harley logo on it and this maybe my fix said nice they require the module that goes connected to it.

I did this a few weeks ago. I did not buy the extra wire kit. Simple enough to do if you follow the instructions, one wire is power and one is ground. I used and just piggybacked off the accessory plug.
Simply cut the insulation not the wire, solder the wires and then move on to the signial wire black and purple i believe.
Tip... when you remove the insulation pull it apart and you will gain space to solder then fold the wire in one direction and put a piece of heat shrink and it will seal it off.

I personally am not a fan of the kit that uses the high beam switch. What I did on my ultra, (and I'm about to do on the RGU), is mount a water proof, 16mm momentary push button somewhere,($3.98), ran two wires, (free from scrap wire drum at work), to a universal remote I got on eBay, ($5). I soldered the wires to the area on the board inside that corresponds to the button that is programmed. When I push the button, garage door goes up.

On my Ultra, I put the button in the plastic, "dash". right in the middle at the base of the gas door. On the new bike, I'll just find a spot in the, "actual", dash. Cheap and works amazing.
