2001 RG EFI
I filled my tank this morning and after about 75-80 miles I noticed the gauge was bouncing from full to empty and the low fule level light on the tach was on. I stopped at a gas station filled it up(only used 2 gallons) and it stayed on the fullmark until again about 75-80 miles when it started bouncing again. After about 100 miles it stays on empty. What should I check? I am lost!

either the sending unit or the float , sounds like the sending unit

Yah I think thats what it is I took it aprt right after righting that and I am sure its messed up

What was it, the float or sending unit ?

I think its the sending unit because when I used a multimeter on OHMS setting it reads 12 ohms when its in one position and when I move it it opens to infinity in about the middle then has 30-40 ohms at the other end. I can see some wear on it as well.

Does any one make these or are they only available from Harley? And where would be the best place to order from.

My 2011 was doing the same thing. The service dept at the dealer told me 99% of the time this was the sending unit.

Mine was the fuel guage. Go figure.

The send sending unit on my 1998 has done that for years. It works perfectly above 3/4 of a tank and below 1/4. When it's between it does exactly as you've described. I've just never gotten around to fixing it.
