Twice in the last 2 months I have filled my tank the gas overflowed. The auto shut off on the nozzle did NOT work. I had the nozzle all the way in the tank with the rubber boot on the nozzle up against the filler hole. What am I doing wrong? Why only a few times? Any ideas how to prevent this? (yes, you may flame and make jokes. I need to laugh). :serious:

I think the auto shut off is part of the pump. Try not sticking the Nozzle in all the way. A lit match will quickly cleanly take care of any spilled fuel.

Those vapor recovery nozzles suck. They've pretty much done away with them in CT. At least the older style with the boot. I will say though that when the tank gets filled fast it will spray out quickly. You can try to pull the boot back but be careful because the idiots that filled their car before you probably tried squeezing in more at the end of their fill up and those boots will fill with gas. When you hold the boot back that gas may spill out onto the tank. Just saying. I lil trick you can do to clear out any gas in the boot is, BEFORE you turn the pump on, stretch the hose out and down the pull the boot back and squeeze the handle. Any gas trapped in the system should come out. Only problem is you'll have gas on the ground which the gas station frowns upon

Hate to say it, but have to hold nozzle and eyeball 5-6 times. I do estimate based on gauge, half full will put in 2.5 Gallons and then start checking. Its basically an old habit from my chopper days

Same here I always keep an eye on the level going in,although the factory paint is pretty tough.I keep a micro towel in the tour pack for any spills.

I never use the auto fill. Always squeeze gas pump trigger so fuel flows SLOWLY otherwise I get tiny fuel spray bubbles on my tank. I will stick the nozzle in deep and fill slowly till it auto shuts off then raise the nozzle and continue filling SLOWLY while eyeballing the gas level in the tank. No reason to be in a hurry and I want to get my tank as full as possible without getting little spray bubbles of gas on my wax job.
