Wondering how the Gatlinburg area is recovering after the fires this past November.

I was going to plan a vacation to the area for a few days this spring but since Gatlinburg and the smoky mountain NP were the areas hit I thought it best to hold off a year or two and see the area after some of the burn scar goes away.

thoughts?

We went to Gatlinburg last week and the main pts of town are not bad at all. The chair lift is gone but you have to go on the back roads to see the real devastation.
Walking thru town you can look up and see some of the homes that have burned. Unless you had reservations at one of the places that burned down I would still go.
Some of the trails in the Park are charred but there are still a lot of places to go untouched by the fires.

Ditto. Iwas there about a week ago too. Some burn damage but no big deal in the town. Might be a good time if folks are hesitant to go. Keep crowds down a little.

After the fire Mayor said what we need is people to still come. The area does depend on tourist dollars.
Part of me wanted to retire in that area. It was a great day dream. My Grandchildren are all here. And I enjoy going there on the bike so much if we moved there it would not be as much fun after awhile.
1500 miles round trip from home. Can be down there or back in one day we've done it many times. Get there ride and home is generally a 3800 to 5000 mile vacation. What is great about the are is we stay then ride everyday some times evenings. No direction you can go wrong. End up back where we stay.
Always meet some one new and I don't care how many times you ride deals gap it is still a nice ride there and back. Get to the south end and keep going. Straight left right it don't madder.
