When I take a long ride (maybe...75 miles or more) I start to get a faint whiff of what smells like bearing grease. The only thing I can think of that could be causing that odor is the wheel bearings getting hot.

Anyone else ever experience this?

I don't think it is wheel bearing grease. You may have some grease coming out of the steering head bearings which is not uncommon when the weather gets warmer. The grease will fly back onto the engine while you are riding. You may find some grease on the fender as it will drip out when the bike is parked. It is better to have the steering head bearings greased and have to do a little clean up then to run dry bearings. The steering head bearings take a lot of grease so when the weather warms up the grease will get thinner and this is when the grease will drip out of the steering head bearings.
