Ok so been having a heck of a time getting a good tune on my bike. had the power commander and it was ok just not right then I was told for 124 it was better to go power vision. So I went with the power vision and now I seem to have nothing but issues. Power mileage, loss in power, sounds horrible when it gets hot almost like a cylinder shuts off, I see DTC codes where the front isnt firing.

I am convinced no one in my area can tune worth a damm.

Now Do I push through and still find a good tuner for the power vision (was considering target tuner) or do I try and go thundermax?

I will give my reply to the question, although I'm sure the experts on here will chime in with better advise. I have no experience with the power vision but I do have a Thundermax on my bike. The reason I have it is quite simple...it was on there when I bought the bike and I did not get the stock ECM with the bike so its cheaper this way and the bike runs just fine (all be it, all I have done is an A/C and exhaust). I'm pretty sure both the systems have box tunes to plug into the bike to get you close, but the more I read, both systems benefit from a good dyno tune. Having said all that, depending where you live I would look for advise from others here if they know anybody close who knows how to tune well. A good tune seems to make everyone happy no matter what system they run. Hopefully others with more knowledge will chime in, but best of luck with your pursuit, at the end of the day we all want to sit in the saddle and ride without worrying about the bike running poorly.

I would think that the real problem with the tuners like PV or T-max would be base map availability. Looking at the Base Map listing in my T-max program they only list 2 or 3 base maps for the 120R with the 58 mm throttle body, they have no base maps for a 120ST or a S&S 124.
It would seem that the PV would not have any base maps for the 124 either.
Any auto tuner that uses the 18mm closed loop O2 sensors should be able to tune the AFR but you would need to find the right engine timing which would lead to a good dyno tune by a competent dyno tech.

I got a map from S&S for the 124" I dont have o2 sensors on the bike it had a pcv with auto tune on it but when that was removed no sensors were put back in.

Get the Auto Tune

You need the PV Auto Tune add-on which comes with the O2 sensors. Then run data logs in Auto Tune Pro mode at all RPMs and throttle positions and it will modify your fuel map accordingly. Seemed to work well for me anyway, but then I don't have the big motor.

A good friend of mine (averages 30k+ / yr for the last 8-9 years) went from the PC-V / Auto to the PV / Auto on his 124HC / DD7 Skunk, told me that the Map from S&S was spot on, to the point that he felt that the self tuning runs weren't really necessary, he's running the Ventilator, 58 HPI, 5.3Injectors and S&S Pipe / Mufflers, 18mm 02s. To my knowledge, his Skunk has not seen a drum with the 124.

If you haven't done it already, speak directly with S&S, DJ, & FM tell them what you are running and see what they have to say (I'd guess that re-installing some 02s would be recommended?)

You need a good dyno tuner, not another ECM. Shoot Jamie an email at fuel moto and see if they can recommend anyone in your area. Don't be afraid to drive to drop off the bike either. The problem is see in auto tuners is some can do a decent job with them but most won't put the effort in to get a really good tune.

All the auto tuners with the 18mm O2 sensors will just auto tune the AFR, the timing always needs to be adjusted manually.
A base map will get the timing close but the timing will still need adjustments.
Because there is so many build configurations with the different exhaust, cams, pistons and heads it is hard for any company to have a base map for every build combination.
With the T-Max you don't need to worry about the AFR adjustment and you can make timing adjustments yourself it will just take a little time to get it right. I would think that the PV with the 18mm O2 sensors can do the same as the T-Max.

Find a good local tuner and ask his advise. Don't believe these internet parts pushers. I wasted a ton of CASH listening to internet parts pushers only to find out there wasn't anyone in my area that would tune my new $$$ tuner. Just a waste of money.

The first step I would do is install the factory O2 sensors, the base map you are running is closed loop, running this map without the O2's is not going to work properly.

A good option if you still have the Auto Tune unit from your PC-V would be to get the Y splitter and 60" CAN cable and you can then use it with your Power Vision. Note: you will still need to change the map to open loop if you do not plan to use the factory O2 sensors.

Ok so I went to a thunderman (thank you everyone for your input) and I do agree with I didn't need to move to thundermax if I had a good tuner. So since I don't locally I went with this option.

Install was simple, got a map that was close. Taught it how it idle and then ride.. 2 auto tune sessions so far and changes are at a minimum at this point. Ill ride it for a bit and do a auto tune again and see where I am at.

Thunderwave is slow in tuning not as fast as the Power Visions target tuner but it does work, Flat spots and holes in the tune you can feel level out. Beginning of the ride mileage was awful. By the end of the ride I was at 37-41 depending if I was in the town or hwy.

It did not help with heat at all, actually made it hotter at idle but again I was coming off a bad tune. Still though Not alot of get up a go and not sure why but alot of my other issues was resolved.

I am happy with this purchase so far and since my bike doesn't fit on a dyno around here because of the 200 front tire, I think it was a good choice.
