I have a new Road Glide Ultra that I am looking to improve the stereo on. it has the most current software up-date on it and I am have no problems with any of the operations of the stereo.

I have installed a Freedom windshield that is one inch taller than the factory which did improve the listen ability of the stereo some and I no longer have to run the stereo at 100% volume to listen to the stereo at cruise speed. However, the clarity just isn't there.

I do plan to add a stage 1 exhaust, intake and tune system in the near future which is going further impair the stereo.

I have done numerous hours of reading between roadglide.org and the hd Forums on stereo upgrades and I think I have gone into sensory overload.

So, what am I looking for? I am looking for a single amp four speaker system and four speaker to replace the Road Glide Fairing Speakers and Tour Pack Pod Speakers. I also want a system that will work independent of the Harley Davidson stereo flash requirements. Since my bike is already a four speaker system no changes to the stereo set-up should be needed. I do not want to add any speakers to the fairing lower nor to the saddle bag lids.

Being a retired Coast Guard Chief Engineer, I don't think installation will be a problem as long as it is a pretty straight forward system with some reasonably good instructions. I will be doing a full documentation of the install to hopefully help other in the future.

Thanks to all that read and reply.

Depends on how far you want to go with it Stage 2 makes a heck of a difference .
Many will try to push you to aftermarket stuff. Comes with a lot of headaches and issues.
HD stuff is great and pretty much plug and play works with what you have with no aftermarket software tricks.
Stock stuff is pretty good most of us are just hard of hearing.

I hear ya! I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for 2 channel amp and fairing speakers only upgrade. The choices are endless. I'd like to do it once and be done with it.

I know you don't want to hear this... IMHO... stay away from Boom upgrade. it's louder yes... but you can get so much more for the same money if not less.

I did tons of research before I pulled the trigger on my aftermarket from Soundz Customz and decided on level IV package with lids ( in sig ) A flash is required yes.... but it is PLUG AND PLAY with no tricks or special add-on stuff needed. There are detailed instructions on their website for you to print out and give to HD tech doing the flash. Peter at Soundz can answer all your questions and details... great customer service from all dealings with him.

There are other options out there that I have no personal experience with, but putting my bike next to a Boom II setup was embarrassing to the guy that just had it installed for what I paid for mine within a couple hundred bucks... he was a little disappointed to say the least.

I agree, my bud had a stage II Boom system installed on is 15 SG. It sounded pretty good until he got next to mine. I got a few hundred less in my whole set up then he got in just the upgrade.
There are a lot of companies that make plug & play upgrades for the Rushmore systems now that will trump the Boom line.

Hello Spazz

I check out the site you suggested and spent about a hour perusing it. To be honest it turned into the same garbelleygoupe as what I have been reading for the last three weeks.

I'm sure they know what there doing and build an outstanding system. But there web site just does not convey anything other than "Buy This" to me.

The Main (Front) speaker system is somewhat understandable but when I look at something for the rear pods it say separate amp required. I don't want two amps.

I looked at the Harley Stage 1 and it may or may not work for me who knows. there just not a lot of people in my area that are playing with the stereo systems on the Rushmore bikes. So I'm having to try to use the web to figure something out. However, I guess since my Road Glide Ultra is a new for 2016 model there just doesn't seem to be anything that is specific to it.

I will be going to the Galveston Bike Rally and according to there web site J&M Audio will be there but I don't know if anyone else will be in the stereo field.

I'm not a stereophile at all! But for me it was just the $150 HD high performance speaker upgrade for my 13RGU. The madstad made it work for my wife.

Don't try to understand what Soundz flash page says.... it's specific instructions to give to the HD tech performing the flash via Digital Tech. Print out the info on that page and hand it to the Service Dept to do what the page instructs them to. The images on that page are screenshots of Digital Technician.. so the HD Tech knows what boxes to check, how many amps, what to turn on/off etc....

See if Peter from Soundz will be in Galviston.... he is based out of Sioux Falls, SD but travels to the rallies.

Hello JMJohn

I have a appointment for my wife in South Houston Thursday at 11:00. We will be making this trip down by truck for the appointment.

My plan is after the appointment to head over to Galveston by truck and catch all the venders, that way if I end up with a load to bring back I won't have to worry about trying to pack it on bike to bring it home.

I also plan to ride (The Bike) down from Orange Texas to Galveston Saturday or possibly Sunday depending on Weather. The weatherman is not coopering for Saturday.

Look Forward Meeting

I am going with the J&M Corp a Rokker XX Extreme kit. I haven't installed the amp yet but the speakers have already made a huge improvement. It looks straightforward and complete. I'll let you know when the amp is installed.

After tons of research I finely pulled the trigger for my stereo up-grades. I should have most of my items this week. New parts consist of Biketronics components:

BT4180.15RG Amplifier kit.

The kit consist of the Amplifier, Amplifier Mounting Bracket, Two line levelers and the wiring to hook everything up.

BT465 Fairing speaker kit.

BTBOC Break out harness.

I will be using a set of Alpine SPR-60 Speakers in the rear pods.

Why did I chose these components:

First, I've dealt with Biketronics with the small amp I had on my Road King which was a BT444 Titan Amp which did fail and they did replace it under there life time warranty. Yes the 4180 is expensive but it's American made a stood behind by Americans forever.

Next the amp will support up to eight speakers, Currently I'm only using four. But, down the road if I want to add a set of saddle bag lid speakers and a set of fairing lower speakers the amp can handle it and I don't need two amps to make it work.

Three, It fits!!!! The amp and it's bracket will install without any major modifications.

It's a proven system that works.

Once I have all the stuff in hand I will do a full install and document the install with pictures as I go.

Thanks for all the input.

I have spent all day putting in my BT 4180 and getting the amp bracket in is a pain.. Make sure you have the right amp bracket, they sent me one for the batwing by mistake and once they realized it, they sent the correct bracket which arrived the same day my kit did. The directions for the bracket is simple once you figure out how to the bracket in. Let me know if you get stuck and I might be able to walk you through it.
PM me for cell number if needed.

Excellent choice going with the Biketronics. I made the mistake of going with JM first and it was definitely not the sound I was going for, especially for the price. I know there is higher SQ individual components out there, but for the money, simplicity of install, and a lifetime warranty on a product that is in a very harsh environment, it's hard to beat Biketronics, and their customer service is excellent.

Whelp. Got all the hardware in hand to complete the stereo upgrade. The only thing I'm lacking is the insulation matt to the speaker enclosures.

Then I just need a weekend when I'm in the mood and have the time off.
