Does anyone have and experience with Harley Davidsons new
SE 585 cams
SE 585 cams
I haven't done any research on the HD SE 585 cams but IMO I wouldn't spend the money on any HD cam.
HD has to comply with the EPA requirements and that has an effect on the performance of the HD SE cams.
If you are looking at a cam mod it is best to go aftermarket.
This^^^^. If you look at the list of SE Cams most will state "For Race Application Only". Only a few of the SE cams are EPA compliant. Not sure about the new 585 cams though.I don't disagree that going after market would be a better choice but I don't think that all HD cams meet EPA standards at all. If that were the case they wouldn't have put the 259E cams in the 120 to make it compliant. They could have just stuck with the 120R with the 266 cams and been done with it.
Im wondering why a 120ST at all?? Plus im thinking a 120_ CI would use a 600+ camI'm wondering what the SE585 cam would do in the 120ST...? >![]()
Nice TQ #'sI put the Stage 3 kit in with pistons and the585 cams, it has Rush Wrath pipes and tuned with a TTS. It put 103 horse and 117 torque down
The 259e is only compliant with a HD header and exhaust with cats. I don't think so much with a SE Heavy Breather Elite and D&D Boss Boarzilla getting 128hp and 141tq. I am really happy with this cam under warranty but will certainly entertain a Woods cam after.I don't disagree that going after market would be a better choice but I don't think that all HD cams meet EPA standards at all. Yes, I get that... but it is one of the ingredients. The 259e is only compliant with a HD header and exhaust with cats.
I got 125hp/131tq with mine and I thought maybe a happy dyno but it runs super strong 3500rpm & up. Not real satisfied 2500-3500 though. That is a very impressive tq number for that cam.I don't think so much with a SE Heavy Breather Elite and D&D Boss Boarzilla getting 128hp and 141tq. That is just a case of getting a crappy batch of the lifters. I know 2 guys with 120R's here locally and ride as hard as anybody you can put them up against and the stock lifters are still fine with 10k on one one and over 30k on the other. Also I rode with someone the other day on a 15' RGS with the 120RX and he has 8k miles on his with the SE lifters. Not suggesting at all that the SE lifters don't have issues but I wouldn't say that it is just because of the 266 cams. ( I could be misreading what you are saying ) They've been having issues in the 110's for a while with 255 cams. I did hear that MOCO has changed production on the SE lifters so I guess time will tell if they are better or not.The 266 eats the already shitty SE lifters. Buddy's motor is junk after 5000 miles.
