How good are HD Heated grips? I never felt them for myself.

When they work they heat pretty well. The problem is that they are known to fail. My buddy has had to have his replaced twice on his CVO. I personally opted for heated gloves and they heat the whole hand and not just the palm.

The ones on my '11 were decent. The ones on my '15 will roast your hands. Like Ken said, they've been know to fail. I've never bothered with heated gloves but I understand his thinking on it. HD seems to have those mirrors we like so well positioned so they deflect air right down on the tops of our hands. I actually have a pair of snowmobile gloves I wear when it's cold to help prevent that.

I have 3 sets of them, never have had one fail. The oldest set are factory on my 05, I put heated on my Roadking in 08-09, and my 11 CVO came with them. I like the heated grips much better then the heated gloves I have. With that and the added part that they are right there, you dont have to plug and unplug them all the time, they are set to go even if you want heat but dont want to stop to get it.

I had them installed on my '11 FLTRU. I also ride with heated gloves. I sometimes use both as my fingers feel the cold easily. Probably poor circulation due to smoking for 40 years before I quit 16 years ago! I never have had them fail, and rarely put them up higher than 3 out of 5. I've used them down to 9 Degrees at 74 mph and my hands are warm all around.

I have a set of the plain heated grips on my 15RGS. Had them installed when I put on my KW 10" mini apes.

So far so good haven't had any issues and the highest setting I ever used was 2. From what I heard the decorative HD heated grips go bad often. The tech @ the shop also told me that the way harley designed them you have to keep both hands on the grips or it will mess them up. So guys that ride a lot only using 1 hand would burn out the heater in that grip.

I have heat demonz and have the garbing heated gloves. I used them once together and was plenty warm. But the heated grips work good for me down to about 45 degrees but my hands are up in the wind just like yours almost and it doesn't get as warm I bet as would if protected by the fairing.
