Today I rode up and met with GizmoGlide and did a nice 250 or so miles on the bike. The reason was to compare his HD Vented lowers to my Hogg Chopps. Both of our bikes are 2010's.

This is my opinion, Gizmo might chime in and give his as well. For looks, I like the hogg chopps, which is one of the reasons I went with them. For function, I would go with the HD Lowers. The reason being, they have greater protection for your feet. The wind coming over, hits me about in the same place on both bikes even though the chopps go up higher. The HD lowers I could not feel much wind hitting my legs from the shin bone down. On the chopps, I could feel a good breeze coming from the inside going around the engine. It wasn't enough to drive me crazy, just an observation. So Hogg Chopps claim to keep engines running cooler, I totally believe that. This is great in the summer, but in winter the chapps won't be coming off. This is also something to think about in rain,.. not sure how much protections I will be getting from the hogg chopps.

For the money, you can't go wrong with either one. If you can afford it, buy the HD vented (if your bike can fit them) and if you can't, your still getting a hell of a product with Hogg Chopps. Even though I found I liked the HD better, I'll stick with what I have because they are still great but more then anything look different them 99% of the other bikers around here.

Here are some pics I took beside a wind farm of the 2 bikes together. We just need to find someone around here with a vivid black 2010 and we'd be set!

I agree completely with Chainsaw's findings. I personally think the Hogg Chopps look sportier which fits with the RG styling a little better. They're more low profile and stick up higher which looks cool. They also allow a lot more room for you to move your feet around without feeling like you're going to kick them.

Functionally, I noticed more wind coming from underneath when riding the bike with the Hogg Chops. They do cut down the wind a lot but I do give the edge to the HD lowers for protection. The glovebox storage is one plus for the HD lowers.

As Chainsaw noted, the Chopps will allow more airflow to the engine which is great in warm temperatures. I had the vents closed today, so hopefully by opening the vent in the summer, I can get enough air to the motor. If it's going to be very hot, I'll probably take them off completely as I got the quick detach hardware.

Good ride today man, let's hope the weather will allow us to do it again soon.

Nice guys....thank you...can you guys do a review like this with the shields as well?
Well I'm 5'10" and Chainsaw is I'm guessing 6'3" or so. My windshield works great for me as it throws the wind just over my head. I do not find the wind coming past it to be too loud as some have reported. I can ride comfortably with just sunglasses and get very minimal buffeting even without the lowers. The fitment is great and it is a very sturdy piece.

Chainsaw's Kury is taller than my Cee Bailey's and I looked through it whereas I look just over mine. It did a great job protecting from the wind and looks good. He mentioned after riding mine that my CB threw the wind right in his face as I had imagined. Mine is a 15" and they do make a 16" so maybe the extra inch would help. It's hard to compare the two because they're each great for us as individuals. If we were the same height, it would be easier to compare.

Thanks for the comarpo. Looks like you two had a hard job to accomplish.<BSEG> Is there a difference in the wind buffeting management with the two lowers?

I can see this forum is going to cost me a ton of money. I ordered the painted hogg chops. I think the heat of summer and increased airflow and styling made my decision. The hogg chops look like they won't interfere with the position of, and access to my highway pegs. I hope the will offer a glovebox for the lowers in the near future. I hope they do a good job matching the CVO titanium dust paint. Tried the soft lowers, they looked horrible, didn't make it out of the garage. BY THE WAY THANKS AND GREAT LOOKING BIKES!

We would of called you, but neither of us had your number. Gizmo did ask me if we should look you up, but had no way other then going door to door asking if anyone knew Kenny with a Road Glide.. :D

Like Gizmo said,. his works perfect for him, and doesn't for me. Mine works perfect for me, and doesn't for him. If your considering buying the Kuryakyn air master, you should be at least 6'2" Im guessing if not my height 6'3". Any shorter, and you will be looking through the shield and not over it.

One thing Gizmo mentioned that I forgot to add,.. yes, the HD lowers are a lot closer to you. The chopps don't get any closer to you, then your crash bar. It feels a lot more roomy with the chopps, as the HD you feel all tucked in.

That is one of my big problems, I am 6'5" with a 36" inseam. I have a CV+2(large) now and it works ok but looks really bad on the bike (Goldwing looking). Maybe once I get the HoggChopps I can look for something with a more aggressive recure so it can be shorter. My recurve on the CV is very slight and feeling with my hand may throw the air 1/2" higher than the top of the shield. I think the most recurve I have seen so far is the WindVest but they only make up to 14" (but claim that it with act like it is 3" taller) which I may try after getting the lowers.

I had a windvest before this Kuryakyn. I didn't like how it looked, it looks just like a clearview and in my opinion looks like goldwing like you said or a school bus. It was the 12", worked pretty good, but just made the bike look like something grandpa would ride. The Kury would work for you, as I have a 36" inseam as well and the wind is kicked up probably 6" above the top of the shield (right over my head). I like how the Cee Baileys look and might eventually give one of the 17" a try because I like how much darker they are then the kury, but for now Im happy as a pig in $h!t.

And if forgot to get that measurement for you, I will try to swing by the storage shed today and get the clearview way of measuring on the kury shield.

I have the 09 non-vented harley lowers and they work great for my bike. Very minimal air gets past them. The only downside is they get hotter than hell during the summer.

When RippedGlide and I drove to Maggie Valley NC a couple of weeks ago we switched 09 road glides on part of the trip back. He has no lowers and a 15" cee baileys. I had non-vented lowers and a 12" Klock Werks. I'm 5'11" and he is 6'4".

I didn't notice any headwind with this 15" cee baileys but I did notice a lot of turbulent wind coming from underneath. The whole time my leather coat and shirt was trying to creep up my torso because he was lacking the lowers.

Ironically, he complains that he gets a lot of headwind with his 15" Cee baileys. When he rides my bike he doesn't get any wind in the head nor does he get the turbulent wind from underneath. He said it's perfect. Now ...I have a 12" KW windshield with lowers and it works great for him???

I would be willing to bet with a set of good lowers on his bike he wouldn't get the headwind. I base my theory on the fact that not having the lowers creates a "vacuum" that pulls air down that is coming over the windshield. It literally pulls the wind down straight into your head. With the lowers on there is no vacuum and the wind probably is directed up over your head. Not sure if this makes sense but it has to be one of several reasons for RippedGlide's experiences.

EDIT: Well now that I think of it.....I do have a lower seat and apes that sit you back in the bike compared to his upright set up with stock seat and bars. In other words, you are laid back and low ( in relation to the shield) on my bike...maybe this has something to do with it.....hummm....

Maybe Rippedglide will chime in on this......
