I currently have an Ultra Classic (12) and seriously considering buying a RG. I don't have a dealer anywhere near by to test ride the RG so I am looking for handling/ride comparisons between the ultra (batwing) and the new RG. I always wanted a RG and the 15's look pretty good. Is there any difference in handling and ride between batwing and frame fixed fairing?

My intention is buy a base model and add detachable top box, upgrade seat for two up wife) and upgrade rear shocks. Add lower fairings later.. I have a FM header, PV with autotune, and various pipes.

I currently have ABS and security, but not sure if I need them. If I think I need them then I should go for the special and get the better rear shocks..

Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance..

I have had Batwings since 91'. I just bought a 2015 RGS and sold an 06' Street Glide. At first it was a bit strange. I have never had or rode a Road Glide before this 2015 RGS. While riding the RG I had to look for the gages and at first the fairing was a bit weird since it didn't move. The biggest difference I have found is the handling. The Road Glide definitely handles much better (I guess from the fairing mounted to the frame). I can get into a turn with much faster speed and nice deep lean. I think the radio sound is worse than a Batwing. I am now used to the RG and don't think I will go back to Bat Wings. I have never ridden an older RG, so I can't speak to them. Hope this helps.

Welcome from Florida. I also have had both Bat and Shark..... Shark (RG) hands down better, I have no intention of ever going back.

Welcome from Maryland. I always felt cramped on the Batwing bikes. The RG is roomier for me. I don't think they really ride very different.

Welcome from NH. I test drove a SG, Ultra & RG. In that order. Once I got on the RG my mind was made up. I've owned a '07 and now a '13.

Before I bought my RG I test rode a used one at a dealer. Didn't test ride a batwing but sat on one at the dealer and much preferred sitting on the RG. And I am just so totally happy with my RG I just can't fathom ever owning anything else.

And, from time to time you see or hear about someone converting their SG to a RG. But...., I have never heard about anyone converting their RG to a SG.

I made the switch last April. Mine is a 2011. The RG ride is unbelievable. Handles better, and cuts through the wind better. Without the weight of the fairing on the bars it is an easier ride. On the highway you dont fight the wind and feel like you have to brace for gusts or turbulence
