so I installed a new rear fender fascia and it does not have the hole in it for the am/fm antennae. I did not want to cut holes in the new fascia so I took the antennae connector off of the mount and zip tied it to the bag mount. I ran the antennae along the frame and under the seat and zip tied it along the way with black ties. Looks clean without the antennae sticking up and it did not seem to affect the reception.

I did same with the antenna even tho I still have stock fender, just didn’t like seeing the antenna. Added simple hole plug, same as on the right hand fender.

I would say the reception would be partially dependent on how you mounted it. If an FM antenna is like a CB antenna there is a ground. Also you would not want the upper antenna to be grounded to the frame.
