Went here yesterday as it was also the BMW MOA Rally sponsored by Max BMW in conjunction with Hunter Mtn. After 2 weeks of great sunny weather, it had to of course rain most of the day yesterday up there. The sun came out when we got to the mountain and stayed sunny until we left.
Fog was so thick in some spots visibility was only a few feet away!
Not to mention all the almost all day rain.
Nevertheless, it was a great ride where we took all back roads from Central NJ.
Food, beverages, vendors of all kinds were there including guided rides up the mountain on the existing trails (dual sport bikes only). Max had demo rides all day and dual sport sessions. Leaves are turning nicely up there now (Ulster county) even with the rain coming down.
Bikes were filthy but not a single problem. On the way home we encountered heavy traffic on the NY thruway (which we took as we wanted the fastest way home). Ironically, the back roads proved a better bet, so we took those. Again we hit traffic on the NJ turnpike (this time no back road choice), and had to sit there creeping for nearly an hour and only covering a mile! There is construction around exit 15 so some lanes were closed.
The only BMW in our group overheated (R1200RT) so we had to wait by the side of the road for 10 minutes. As we got ready to leave the other guy in his 2011 SG (103" stage 1) could not start. Man, I was thinking would my bike start? Was I next?
Another 5-10 minutes of waiting around and off we went. My 9 year old RG started right up and performed flawlessly. I was comfy all day (from 6 am to 7pm), enjoyed the tunes and my new HID's which came in real handy in the fog and rain. What a bike!

I wish I had known about the Octoberfest. I was riding only a few miles from Hunter and had lunch in Phoenicia.
DAMN!

Kudu40, they have this every year at this time. Just check the Hunter mountain website. Also, once a year Max BMW has their event together with Hunter Mtn. on one of the 2 Octoberfest weekends so you can demo their bikes or take some off road courses (if you are into that) and they also offer guided rides up the mountain on their enduro bikes. Go on an empty stomach as they have good food vendors there. Camping is also allowed on site.
