I have no wheel weights?

574 Views 16 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Road-dawgs1
so... after cleaning my wheels for about the 100th time, it finally dawned on me... my wheels have no wheel weights on them. hey I am slow but I eventually get there.

thinking back, I am positive they were never there even from day 1 back in March.

no clue if any other balancing method was used or not... but the bike feels fine. not sure if I should be concerned, or just continue to run out the clock on these tires and figure it out when time for new rubber. probably the latter, cause procrastinate is what I do best.

Well... thanks for letting us know I guess.

Was your bike new when you purchased it? If so, does your dealer use balance beeds or gel? Was it a previous owner and that shop used beeds or gel? Is this the original tires? All questions you should answer to understand what is going on with your bike.

The MOCO only uses perfectly balanced wheels and tires these days so no need for balancing them. ;)

I wouldn't worry about it if you don't notice any balance issues. I suppose there's always a chance a wheel/tire does not need any weight but it seems highly unlikely for that to apply to BOTH wheels on the same bike. As stated above, dealer or previous owner may have used internal gel/beads.
bike was new 22 off the floor. I may have to call the dealer to see if they use internal beads or other, but I highly doubt it.

I guess my question I forgot to ask is if anyone else has run across this, and/or should I be concerned...
If the bike rides fine, as you stated, I believe, then nothing to worry about. Get out and ride...

Chances of it requiring no weights on both wheels is highly unlikely but anything is possible. I highly doubt your dealer put balance beads in or anything else like that. Are there any markings on the wheels from where weights might have been adhered?
Seeing how the Moco is producing bikes nowadays I can see them skipping this step actually. I have been hearing a lot of unfavorable things about the newer bikes and how they are showing up at dealers.

If a street glide insert on a road glide can get past QA, anything is possible.

Exactly!
I don't have any weights on my front wheel, and this isn't the first tire. If it needed them I'm sure they'd be on there.
A balance is only good for about 5k anyways . I know guys the never balance their MC tires.
I personally use Ride-on tire balancer/sealer .
My 2020 had a noticeable vibration above 80 when it was new. Got to checking it out and took it in. The rear wheel had been balanced but the front had not. Once they balanced the front the vibration disappeared. For what it’s worth.
Never had them on the wheels , tires run fine . I did use ride on one time , whether it works as advertised , cant say , but it leaves a nasty mess on the wheel when you change the tires . Scott used it on the Alaskapade and says it works .. , used dyna beads as well , cant say they work or not either ..

I've used this before with great results and the tires seemed to last a little longer being constantly balanced.
Note: I did add 1 to 1.5 extra ounces depending what I was able to get out of the bottle.

Not a stretch to think that beads instead of external weights were used on a bike sold from the showroom floor. I would think the cost of beads versus lead stick-on's over the course of a year would be a factor.
Bikes come from MOCO to the dealers with tires Installed. Balancing tires is not part of the PDI. Unless it was one of those dealer showroom spiff up bikes with added accessories, new paint scheme and new wheels, the dealer wouldnt be messing with the wheels.
