This is all new tech stuff for Harley, barely two years and they are already uploading firmware updates. That alone is a big plus. Many professional camera companies for example, update rarely. Have you followed the history of this technology? Garmin gave up updating many older systems, or charged a substantial fee, and several older units still have to pay before they went to lifetime updates. Relax, give it a break, or wait another couple years before you finance your next ride.

I havent found enough flaws to bitch about yet, except the set up which is a pita. My GPS works fine so far after set up. Maybe I'm not expecting enough.... ?

You're probably right, but I expect technology to advance. No one buys a new computer or phone and expects to go backwards. It's just unacceptable. Regardless, it's not expecting too much to have at least eight year old technology on a new bike. Apple or Samsung wouldn't get away with it. They could put a little less in marketing and more in tech and maybe we'd be talking about how useful it is about now. I'm not asking anyone to expect something on my provocation. The original thread was about someone wanting to upgrade from 2011. You made the right suggestion in waiting a couple of years. I wish I had. I wrote a check for the last three bikes. Maybe I should have financed the 15 ( the 14 softail digital odometer works as expected ) and I could have felt like I was paying for something as it evolved.

It's exactly what I expected from Harley. The tech isn't new to Harley or or anybody else. Harley doesn't make their head units. 10 year old tech is no tech at all.

I guess my point is, there are lots of gripes about the system, but why? It's what should be expected. And the head unit to headphones via Bluetooth? It would be nice to have, but it's not available on ANY head unit, so why think HD would do it first?

Ijs.

I think we also have to remember that when Harley starts designing a new bike, it just didn't happen the year before. Years go into design and planning. Tooling has to be adjusted, time lines for parts manufacturers considered. When Harley first started working on the Rushmore I would think they started contacting Harmon for what they could do with a radio. At that time, the GPS would not have been that old in the whole scheme of things. Now would have Garmin been a better choice for the gps, heck yeah. I'm sure some kind of update will happen sooner than later. Heck, on my new Garmin I bought, it was probably over a year out of date when I got it. They just had an update just recently. Hopefully Harley will get this straightened out with Harmon and make everyone happy.

I'm in full agreement with JohnnyRGlide & Oddball here. The GPS is truly a POS considering when it came to market. My 4 year old TomTom is heads & shoulders ahead of the Harley unit. If I put the GPS to fastest or shortest routes it will show me a route 800 or 900 miles out of my way. Everytime I try to program a new location is a 10 minute ordeal & I never know if its going to send me in the correct direction. I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with HD Customer Care, & then sent them a nice polite letter itemizing the issues I had found on this 2015 technological marvel. Have I had a response from them? Not a chance. You would think they would at least have the decency to blow me a kiss, or let me know they received my letter.
The sound system I don't mind so much. It's pretty hard to expect perfect sound when you are roaring down the road at 8omph. But other than that, the next road trip I'm on I will stick my Tom Tom onto the faceplate of this POS. That will be good advertising for the MOCO.

As soon as I locate an aftermarket unit that will fit into the bike I will send the Infotainment system to the recyclers.

Otherwise the bike is the best thing Harley has ever put out. I love this bike more & more every time I ride it.

Speaking on the audio issue only......... Harley would have serviced us 2015 owners better by just slapping a JVC or Sony off the shelf head unit in the bike and called it good. No fancy AVC or DSP, just decent quality audio electronics with a decent amp and all would have been good IMHO :)

This would make sense to me too, set the bike up to accept a standard form-factor system and let it go at that. I can go to Amazon or any other online sourse and buy head units that do everything the HD system does for $400 or less. It wouldn't even be that hard to offer a seperate intercom system that integrates with any aftermarket entertainment system.
So far the factory audio system is working for me, the CVO system offers enough power and the bike's taller windshield and lowers allow for crystal clear audio at even 80mph.

I for one have been having good luck with the GPS system.. I use HD's Ride Planner to do maps and transfer them to the bike via USB, and have also had the same success letting the GPS generate it's own maps which come out the same as the Ride Planner generated maps.
This weekend will be a good test as we take off for Bikes Blues and BBQ in Arkansas.

Makes sense to me too! But then you wouldn't need HD for the upgrades and all.........$$$$$$$

Harley customer care finally got back to me acknowledging my letter to them. They have no intention of fixing these GPS units, but told me that the future updates may or may not resolve these issues. However, I will have to pay for the updates. Thanks for nuthin Moco.

It cost HD a lot of money to get these things designed & engineered to go on their bikes. I can't understand why they wouldn't put more thought into them & make them properly from the get go.

Do they really enjoy the negative publicity. Imagine how much more profit they could make for their shareholders if everyone of their customers was overjoyed with ALL aspects of the bikes.

I have a 16 RG Ultra. I miss my 660 Zumo. How do you get the voice commands to play through the speakers, as there is no aux plug ?
I tied to learn the GPS on he infotainment system, It cant hold a candle to the Zumo.
Are you talking about the boom setup sound or adding a 660 to the boom system?

First, throw out everything you ever knew about using a GPS and start over, If you start from scratch and learn it's quirks, the craptainment unit works pretty decent. But agreed, it's not, and won't ever be, a Garmin or TomTom.

Yes, you can make the infotainment shout prompts through the speakers, read the manual, it's in there, as is a lot of stuff you're probably missing.

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out that you could turn up the voice on the prompts for turns and such. When it starts talking you can push volume up during it and increase the volume. Other than that you have to search thru the radio for the proper area to turn it up. Not easy at first doing it like that. Also, anyone having problems with the voice saying turn left and the map shows you to be turning right?

Latest update to 1.19.1.1 fixes that.

There's also the map update that's out. You have to get that from Naviextras. CVO owners get 3 free updates.

$150.00 for an update is way too much for something that should be free. I might get an update in about 10 years, but not likely.

Just looked up Naviextras site, latest map update is Q2 2014

Free for CVO owners. What the heck good is that? Roads that have been open 2 years are not in the system.

And 1.19.1.1 does not fix the left is right is left go in circle issue. It also doesn't fix the exit the highway and uturn back to the highway flaw either.

Ask me how I know.......
