When doing a cam install with adjustable pushrods, how many additional hours labor would an average Indy need to change out the HG as well?

I'm planning on doing the above, but not if it's going to cost too much. I'm definitely not able to afford any head work, so it's just a head gasket swap from factory to a .030" for a bump in compression to help the cam.

Why go with adjustables if you are going to pull the head? If you need to pull the pushrods at a later date, you can use bolt cutters & cut them then. Also be sure to get a MLS type gasket instead of the graphite style. As for hours I am not sure how much a Indy would charge, but if I remember correctly it Took me about 4 hrs on the head gaskets.

If a shop is doing it there is a huge increase in labor, if I remeber correctly book time is like 6-8 hrs just to pull rocker boxes and change cams. Almost double of what it takes to change cams with adjustable push rods.

The bump in compression is hardly worth it, what cams are you thinking about, what bike , what year, what engine?

A lot of factors go into choosing the right cam but we need some more info.

If doing a head gasket don't bother with adjustable push rods as they will not be needed. If the heads are off you can reuse stock assuming they work with your cams and they will be accessible. I'd say adjustables and no head gaskets or non adjsutbles and do a head gasket.

Going from the stock .045 head gasket to the .030 head gasket won't bump the compression up that much but if you want a bit more compression than go for it.
Look up Big Boyz heads and go to the calculator section and you will see how much compression gain you will get.
The heads are a easy DIY and there is no need to have a shop do the work if you have basic hand tools a 3/8 torque wrench and some mechanical ability along with a HD service manual.
I can tear the heads off and put them back on and be riding the bike in 3 to 4 hours.
Personally I would just leave the heads alone but you can just pop off the rocker covers and rockers and pull the stock pushrods and reuse the stock pushrods if you want to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the info.... Can't afford double the labor just to swap out HG. Looks like I'll be just bolting in the cams.

Bike is a '15 RGS stock 103" . Cams are the 57h cams.

You should still check out www.bigboyzheadporting.com and go to the calculator section.
You will find the calculator on the cams which will tell you what the cam will produce in HP, torque and compression.
Compare the Andrews 57H with other cams such as the Woods 222 or 555 or the T-man 555.

Some people are giving bad advise about not using adjustable push rods. You have to take in account that if you use a thinner head gasket you will lower the height of your heads so you would need custom length push rods also not all Cams are ground on the same base circle as Stock so that would also change the required lenght for proper rocker adjustment.

So could you use Stock push rods? Yes, BUT you will have to do some homework to make sure everything will work. Adjustables are easier

Thanks for all the advice. I cant afford the labor to swap out the HG, so I'm going to look for a "bolt in" cam and leave the heads alone.

Not really bad advice on using stock pushrods.
Going from the stock .045 head gasket to a .030 head gasket will not affect the rockers at all.
Your lifters (tappets) have approx 3/8 inch of travel and the lifters should be around the middle of its travel range when everything is assembled.
The .015 of an inch will not make much difference in lifter travel and you can use the stock pushrods with no problems.
