I noticed today that it looks like the cone part of my right hand speaker is flattened. Its also staticy and almost sounds blown any point over half volume. I checked with several CDs, thinking it might just be a bad burned disc, but it happened on all of them. It was fine and the cone was never messed up before,.. but have noticed it in the past couple of rides it looks like its getting flatter. The static noise just started today. Doesnt make any sense because the grill is intact. The only thing I have done recently, was add the J&M amp. I plan to contact J&M about it, but wondered if anyone else has had any problems with their 7.25's yet. Its a bummer and I hope I don't have to send it in and wait for them to send me a replacement. Im so used to kick ass sounding speakers now, I could never go back to stock ever.

I had it happen to one of my speakers as well. I contacted John at J&M and had to send it in for evaluation. Five days later a new speaker showed up.

I was just hoping it was a fluke, but now that I see you are having problems I just wonder how long my remaining original speaker will last. I am running an ELF 2125 amp (same as an ARC and J&M).

I had my doubts about running these with an amp as they do not look that robust, maybe they just had a bad batch.

that's a drag... hope you get a new set without too much trouble.

I'm seriously considering getting an elf amp for more lows.

the guy who sells elf amps, had said he tried the 7.25 J&M's, (he owns a road glide) and ended up with infinity kappa 6.5 and also mentioned polk audio db 6.5 speakers as a lower cost option, both sounding better than J&M...

not sure of the part no, and as far as I know those are both 4 ohm speaker, still looking for the 2ohm part no.'s.

the adaptor rings are around $40, which seems high, but, whatcha gonna do othwise?

Don't get me wrong, the 7.25 speakers sound fine on the bike. I had some Polk audio db 5.25" before the J&M's and the J&M's sound better at highway speed.

I think it is hard to judge the speakers with a static test, I don't think the 7.25" sound all that great in my garage but they do shine on the road. While my polk speakers rocked the house when in the garage, but had no balls doing 80mph.

The only issue I had with J&M was they only wanted the bad speaker back, I would have much rather exchanged the pair for a new set. Now I am doing a waiting game to see if the other one craps out.

Yeah, I think it is hit or miss with all speakers. I had the hogtunes on my 05 and one crapped out after a couple of months with just the stock unit. They replaced it immediately and all was fine. J&M seems to be a stand-up company and I doubt you will get any hassle replacing it.

I will say, I had POLKs on my 05 for over a year (pre hogtunes) and never had an issue, they just didn't do it for me sound-wise but I didn't have an amp. Keep us informed of the outcome, cause I would bet a good majority of us have your same set-up.

This is no joke, mine crapped out on the way home from Sturgis with about 1200 miles left to get home.

I don't know if it helps, but when I changed out my speakers, I went with the ones made my Kicker. They sound great and carry a little more bass than the 5.25 J&M's. I've had them since the end of May, and almost 8000 miles later they haven't missed a beat. I've had the Hogtunes tweeter pod, and no problems there either. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I'll advise if they screw up. And a buddy of mine just went with the Boom spearks from the MOCO. I'll let y'all know how they turn out too

sorry for your loss of your speakers Chain...that sucks the big one. Mine are still rocking (touch wood) but on the stock HD unit with out an amp. (hope i didn't jinx myself there) I don't know how speakers flatten on their own? Is that possible? or did someone say, "wow what a great looking speaker with a shiny dome thingy, I wonder if I can touch it with my key? or other skinny object?" seems a bit strange doesn't it.

I am sure John at J&M will fix you up good...tell him who you are and who your friends are here....he'll get the picture:cool:

OK I Just got to ask this

Has this happened to any one out there? When I first got my Ride I thought something was wrong with the bike because I'd fell vibrations in my feet while on my highway pegs. I'd slow down, even pulled off road. STUPID Me finally figured out it stopped when i turned down the radio!! How is it with the 7.25'S?

I emailed J&M tonight, just waiting to hear back. I'm hoping they will stand behind them,.. I never sent in my warrenty card but on the actual card it reads that you don't HAVE to send it in. Just as long as you have proof of purchase, which I have my receipt still. It definatly is blown though,. was hoping Id wake up today and it would be fixed :D
Its also good to hear that I'm not the only one its happened to, and from everything I have read about J&M, they will stand behind their products and make it right.

Ive also decided that since I have to take the fairing off again, Ill just go ahead and remove the Hogtunes Hogpod since the J&M's blow it away and I can't tell a difference with or without it. Throwing the idea around of putting a set of speakers in my inner fairing (pointing towards the forks) as I've seen that before and people say it helps with more sound as well.

I dont no if this is anything to do w/situation here, but what was your automatic volume control set on, chain. When I had my problems w/Titan Hertz, I was Kiln the Pantera goin down the road after installing my speaker baffles. I had my A.V.C. 1/2 way up (I think its 2) and low and behold L/S went crackly. Biketronics replaced the speaker w/no questions asked. BUT, since then I've kept my A.V.C. OFF! Do you think this has somthin to do w/this? O.K. I remember now that my L/S tweeter was loose at the time of install when new, and it finally came all the way out. Thats why it fryed. OH!, maybe your tweeter or mid was loose? Is there anyway that could of happened? I'm not familar w/the design. From what I can recall from the pics they are permantly fixed into the grill.

I tried turning my AVC on,.. but it made the music to "tinny". Sounded terrible that way, so I turned it off as Dr V-Twin and J&M both suggest to turn it off. A few times I turned it on, and cranked it up just to see riders behind me shake their heads when they could hear my tunes. But 95% of the time AVC was off, and volume was between 1/2 and 3/4 depending on how windy it was on each day.
As for the design, the tweeters are both in the grill, no way for them to hit the big speaker. Today it didn't sound to bad, but it was also pretty windy.

Ive been in contact with John, and he said to send in both my speakers. He said it sounds like the one got to hot. I told him I will wait until a cold front comes through, so I can not be without tunes. ;)
