Thinking I have not found the love yet for my new 2018 pearl white Road Glide Special which replaced my 2008 anniversary FLTR.

Not impressed with the audio - not as loud or clear as my after market units on my 2008.

My 2008 had JRI rear and Progressive Suspension fronts. The new 2018 OEM suspension is not as good as my ‘08 with upgrades.

So, thinking of JRI rears or Ölins. Thoughts from those who have tried both especially appreciated.

I understand JRI and Olins have monotube fronts. Are they worth the extra money over Progressive fronts with which i was happy on my ‘08?

Thanks

I went with Ohlins front and rear on my 17, I’m very happy. I have JRIs on my 10 with the mono tube in front. I don’t know about the new mono tube front, but I believe the old one is good, especially when you consider the price, but the Ohlins front seems a bit better.

I ordered the Ohlins shocks with adjustable rebound from Smarty last night for my '18 special. The ride with the stock suspension is fine on smooth roads and sporty for the curves, but who wants to only ride on the few smooth roads that are out there?

I will see how they go and then decide what to do on the fronts. I do like the Traxxion cartridges for the front end because they are adjustable for compression and rebound at the top of the fork, but I haven't looked at the bike to see if I can easily get to the top of the forks.

I swapped my stock rears from my 17 to Os from Smarty as well - Could not be happier - For me, personally, the new Showa Front on the M8s is "Good Enough" - Now, with that being said, they are NOWHERE as good as the O Fronts I had on my '15 but that is an Apples to Fish Tacos comparison - I do get a speed wobble when the bike is in triple digits and I am leaned over in a sweeper........but that is less than 1% of my riding so I am okay with riding out the wobble....that comes from a dialed in rear and stock front

Never had JRI......had many a Race Bike in my fucktard days with Os so I know that product and what it brings........that and Smarty has some not so flattering Polaroids of me........and you see where this is going.

Hey I got a 2010 RG stock ride sucked. i bought 12" Progressive 444 some improvement not impressed yet. Were yours 13" long? I am gonna get monotube for front end of season. But am thinking PS Suspension may have to go. May have to bite the bullet and go with Ohlins in the rear 13"?

After some research I ordered Ohlins 3+3.. I felt having a shock built for your weight and riding style is better than an off the shelf shock.. With that said my brother just put Legends shocks on his 18 SGS and loves them.. I had Progressive on my last bike and wasn't all that impressed.. We all know anything is better than the stock crap.. The Big Brown Truck will be here tomorrow.. :D Good luck with your choice..

I had JRI's on 2013 Road Glide Custom and never could dial them in. They were sent back several time without success. Save yourself time and aggravation and just order Ohlins from Smarty!! Smarty was great to work with, helped me set them up even with all the dumb questions and stuck with me through final adjustment.

Funny you mention that as he stuck with my Dumb Ass through it all too - When he did the last and final adjustment, it was bang spot on - THEN, last year at SW, O was there and I asked the Mfg Rep to throw my pig on the hoist and dial 'er in - Guy says, "they are 99% perfect right now, we'll just add this tweek and you'll be set"....and set I was - Point being, Smarty (over the phone mind you) got them absolutely awesome for me......the 1% was we were actually a tad too aggressive int he setting....which I was fine with....but when we dialed it out a bit....twas even better - I come from an Era of "you learn to ride what you have" and ride around any issues...si unless it is all fucked up, I'll find a way........but Smarty made that way very easy for me - He's a good cat that @Smarty

IMO cant go wrong with the Os...be aware that the progressive fronts for rushmores are not a cartridge in each tube..only 1...I have the progressives and if I were to do it again Id go with Os or legends...

I appreciate the good words Eddie! Just glad to get fellow riders a ride that is quality yet can handle anything you want to dish out at your Harley. Amazing what Ohlins can do for a touring bike!

I made the decision yesterday that even though the Showa Front of the M8 is better than the '16s and below......I want Os up there - Winter Project chosen...!

I will probably do the same thing. Smarty had a lot of patience with me as well, and got me set up over the phone, while he was on vacation in Mexico!

How them Cans working out?
Be liking my HOs! Love the sound, perfect for me, look good, butt dyno says they make the bike run a little better.

Scraped one slightly on the bottom due to a high driveway curb and preload on new shocks not set quite high enough. Fixed that, can't see the tiny scratch.
