I know I can look up the trouble codes on my speedo and I know the Harmon Kardon radios are riddled with issues but I feel like I just need to vent my frustrations to sympathetic ears so here goes.
Last September, while in Ocen City , Md. for DelMarVa Bike Week my 2011, FLTRX went into limp mode. I took the main fuse out and let it sit for a minute then replaced the fuse and all was good. Then while in Washington, DC for Rolling Thunder a couple of weeks ago, it did it again! So I did the same thing and all is now good.
No I haven't tried to pull the codes, I'm not even sure if I'd have any since I pulled the main fuse and reset everything. Like I said, I'm just venting.
Last August, while on an all day outing with some friends and friends of friends the display on my HK radio went blank. Everything else still worked just fine but no display. I was dreading the thought of having to take the radio out to send it to Iron Cross Audio but fortunately, that too seemed to fix itself. Then, again during Rolling Thunder, the display went out again and as before, everything except for the display was working. Then as if by some voodoo magic, it started working again.
Ugh! Very Frustrated
Thanks for reading this, sorry for going on for so long but, like I said, I just needed to vent.

Try cleaning the contacts for the main fuse. Pull the fuse, and sand off any corrosion. Clean the female contacts with a thin nail file (disconnect the battery first, if you're using a metal file, but that should be self explanatory). Put some dielectric grease on it, and button everything up.

I was having the same issues, left me stranded three times. I had the same solution, pull the fuse, wait, put it back and ride on. After I cleaned it a few years ago, it's never happened again...

And check all the wiring that plugs in by the air cleaner. A wire that loses contact when it gets hot can cause that issue with the limp mode.

This happened to a riding partner numerous times on long trips only when the weather was quite warm and we had been riding for hours. A wire (inside the harness) was hanging on by a single strand and once it was soldered back together never happened again. The sheathing over the wires had to be peeled back to find the near broken wire.

There's information out there in cyberspace about fixing the display. You take the radio out, pull the faceplate and GENTLY tweak the pins. It worked for me.

+1 on the face plate. I seen it done on this sight. Might be a good time to check codes so you can pin point whats shutting you down.

Go trade it in on a 15. You got Gremlins and they don't go away.

I had the same problem with the TBW issue last year. Had the ECM and twist grip sensor replaced under warranty. Had the same issue again, and the Service Manager at the local dealer (Ron at Bossier City HD) went above and beyond. As soon as I told him what had already been done, he said the only two options left were the main harness and the induction module, so he ordered both. He said there was a repair process for the harness, but considering that I was getting ready to leave for a 7k trip, he was going to tell Harley they needed to replace the harness. Turned out the harness was routed wrong at the factory and I had several wires rubbed completely through and grounding to the frame. No issues since and I have rode it like I stole it since getting it out of the shop.

I did the faceplate repair on my '09 sg. Worked great and never had another problem with it. You need to check the codes next time it happens. First place to check is at the plug at the throttle body. Clean that up and make sure it is coated with dielectric grease. Clean the main fuse and its socket. It depends on what the fault code is as to where to look.
