June 10 - 18, 2017

Getting the thread started.

Our crew has reserved our two houses. Will have our usual 18-24 people. A dozen of us heading to Nova Scotia later in the summer.

Not a lot new on Laconia has been posted anywhere yet. Although I have "heard" of a few new things.

Suffice it to say that the concert operation at the drive in last year was a financial bust for the organizers.

The ride to the top of Mt Washington MC only days might have changed. More on that later.

Thanks Drampy ! Aligns with others, that have said one runs out of time.

Thus, we are focusing on Cabot Trail as the target. Taking ferry both ways, to save a day.

Nothing of note to report in the past month. Still here say, and nothing published.

Our crew grew a bit beyond our housing, and they grabbed 3 nights at the NASWA. Secured about 2 weeks ago. So, as I type, should be openings there, and elsewhere.

Post your thoughts and plans.

Puckoach, I missed the meet and greet last year, any dates or times set up for this year yet? I was hoping to try and catch it this year.
Hey MadMat !

DJTMAN and I were really the only ones at the Meet and Greet last year. But, we may have picked a time that only "worked" for us.......

Will give it another go this year. But, am hoping for more input from others. As everyone has tailored their trip to limited days, times and events. Weather is also a factor.

So, the more guys that post their availability, the better the chance to schedule what fits !

Still quiet on the Event Announcements. NH Pavillion has Bryan Adams on Sat 6-17, tickets on sale now. They have an event on Friday too. But, really not Biker targeted. Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls.....should be an interesting mix at Patrick's Pub that evening......btw, they do offer tent camping at the Pavillion.

Laconia Facebook sent out lodging available "add" within the past few days. Naswa, and a few other insider venues still have availability.

Music line up for the week at the Paradise is published. Great for the Tiger Lilly fans ! Good band, and great guys. Spent the Bikini Contest sitting with them.

The Markis family, that runs the NASWA and leads the Rally Comm., has announced an event at their Steak House in Concord. Info on the rally site.

My favorite, a tribute horn band Manchuka will be June 11 Tower Hill, Bike Week 9pm,

Just announced.

Saturday June 17th at Hampton Beach Casino, Bare Naked Ladies.

Edit 5-1-17 Sold Out

It's the second Saturday of the rally. A little over an hour away from Weirs, on a direct route. But, I would suggest taking the long way..... Go over to Bentley's for lunch. Then turn to the coast, and take shore roads, down to Hampton. For GPS users, from Bentley's, punch in Cape Porpoise. Then The Cliff House to York Sands. Left just before hitting RT 1 in York Harbor, onto Rt 103 to Kittery. I don't know current bridge situation in Portsmouth.
But, then punch in Wentworth by the Sea. Then grab Rt 1a all the way to Hampton.

====

The Hill Climb, has returned to the local area. Back at Gunstock Ski Area.

Not much new posted this week.

Am hearing about ongoing bookings for bands. But Road House, Spoke, and Patio Garden web sites are quiet.

Laconia has been added, as a stop on the National Gypsy Tour. Which makes stops at many rally's. Search their web site, for details. If you like rally's, and are retired or off for the summer, might be fun to travel around for awhile.

Laconia about 62 days away. Surprising that the NASWA Resort is advertising space available, posted earlier today. I don't know the prices, but certainly a fun place.

Looks like the boulevard is getting a face lift. I rode by there on Tues and it's all torn up. Fresh new pavement for your kickstand to dig into.

I was there Tuesday and saw the same thing. The breakfast place on the corner was closed? And it was one lane in front of the Naswa.

I was there many years ago and they had a few demo Buell's. They would lead you around the race track. Do they do anything with the track now?

Actually, it was very busy, a must stop last year ! However, not a ton of people did stop there, as a few of the vendors were a bit disappointed.

Of course, part of the Rally's problem is it has become fractionalized. Spread out, and vendors changing sites, or no longer attending. I cite Custom Dynamics and Corbin as two that no longer attend. Of course, physical stores - which the vendors are - have been suffering loss of sales to the internet on all levels/products.

I digress.....

As updates will occur, here is the link to the Speedway. Click around it a bit, as they are very active:

Well, it's now May. As of today, 36 days to the start of the Rally !

A few new things posted on the official web site. Of note, the Harley Demo's and Hog Pin Stop have moved from the NH Speedway, to the Drive In Entrance. Which is across the street from the famous Weirs Beach sign, at the beginning of the strip.

Could make for some interesting "delays" in the demo rides, at busy times. Which was part of the reason a bunch of the demo trucks moved out near the airport a few years ago. Then down to the Speedway.

Also of note, is the local Laconia Chapter HOG Hospitality Tent at Laconia HD, is listed on the official Web Site Events Pages. Which is in a way remarkable. Or not, depending on your view point. There is "friction" between Laconia HD, and current management of the Rally. Hopefully, on it's way to being settled !

Still waiting on the band postings for Spoke, Patio Garden, Laconia Harley, and the Road House.

9 Days until the Rally !

A line up for music part of the week at the Speedway has been posted. NASWA apparently same band every day. Don't forget their Bikini Contest on Thursday ! Look at events on the official site:

Laconia Motorcycle Week® Featured Live Music ? Laconia Motorcycle Week®

Still no update on the Music at the Marketplace - Patio Garden. Which is a great venue. Small, outdoors, on a lawn. Just a nice place to sit and listen. Sort of behind the pier up the street.

Laconia Harley still just listing bands every day. A must stop during the rally.

In the past, there has been a Vendor Listing online. Have not been able to find one this year, and all that is posted, is very old.

For the new visitors:
Do book lodging in advance.

Lakeside Ave, is the "strip". 1/2 mile or so, vendors on one side. Mostly beach on the other. A lot of bikes parked to view. Walking to Roadhouse, and vendors on the hill. As well as old waterslide hill across street.

Best approach to Weirs Lake Front "strip", is from Shaw's at 107 & Rt 3 intersection, and Rt 3 to Weirs. Left at circle. Right at Weirs sign.

Lakeside is free, and usually full early. Best parking might be on the bridge, right turn down hill to beach parking $5. Paved, with shims.

Plan to ride a bit, in traffic. Laconia Harley a few miles away. Parking in back of their lot free. Paved. Music, vendors. They gear up, and import tech's. Quickly done oil changes, slip on's, etc. Adjacent Turkey Farm lot has vendors, and a great breakfast buffet, or turkey dinners.

Broken Spoke is in between the two. In fact, if you go down the strip, your exit will bring you along side the Spoke. Always a good music line-up. Great front porch. We "rain" there when need be. Parking is awful, in woods on dirt with tree roots. Be sure to back into your spot, for ease of exit post beverage.

Looney Bin is nearby that. Small, but great place !

The NH Speedway is 20 minutes or so south of the Strip. Was worth the ride last year.

There are Maps, or MC rides available, with advertisers published. The rides are good ones.

A trip down to Hampton Beach is about an hour 15. Wally's on the back street. Purple Urchin, or any of the tiered deck bars are great. Bernie's is good at night.

A trip to Bentley's is a great one. About an hour 25. Best Biker Bar in New England. Take 11 S, around bottom of Lake, along side lake to Wolfeboro, then out 109. Poor Peoples Pub in Sanbornville, Willys Tap room, or Iron Tails in Acton ME, on the route. Then go north on Rt 1 to Arundel. There is a quicker back way, if you have GPS.

From Wolfeboro, you can continue a circle of Lake Winni on Rt 109, then left on Rt 25 back to Rt 3. OR, take a right on RT 25 for 10 minutes, and go to the Barby Q at Rt 16 Intersection. Great spot.

Take a left at onto 16, and head north. I don't know about this years version of Rally in the Valley in North Conway. A few of the organizers have passed away. Cathedral Ledge, and Hurricane Mountain Road are challenging. RT 302 thru both notches, with Bretton Woods MT Washington Hotel in the middle are great rides, with smooth pavement.

Just short of Conway, is Rt 112, The Kanc, while it has a few heaves, it's worth it. Great ride.

Hope to see you there !
