I'm planning on doing the loop around Lake Superior late July early August.
Will be leaving from New York. Anyone have a suggested route? Ferry suggestions?
Places to stay (bike friendly).
Much appreciated.

I would start here.

I really like roadrunner magazine and have done some of their Shamrock Tours that are included in every issue of their great magazine for riders. If you have never picked up a copy, I highly recommend it.

I haven't done the Canada side, but did ride the US side from Duluth to Sault Ste. Marie.

On another trip I did take the Ferry between Tobermory and South Baymouth across Lake Huron. That was interesting.

Are you going to camp or hotel or a little of both?

You can't visit Canada near the lakes without partaking in Fish n Chips with brown gravy.

only thing i can contribute is that is a great time of year to be there!

fog is common in the mornings; you're gonna love the fresh air off the lakes.

smoked salmon is great but i'd skip the pasties.
@twowheeladdict those roadrunner links are pretty cool!

Really? I'm just the opposite. Didn't care for the cold served smoked salmon. But the pasties,,, that is half the reason I ride northern Michigan. The Mackinaw Pastie & Cookie Company near the Mackinac bridge serves the best pasties I've ever had. mmmm,,mmmm.

@tazza56 If you have some time a stop at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park and Micro Brewery is worth a stop. Another place I make sure to get at when I'm within 200 miles of the place. They surf a tasty Lake Superior whitefish that is the freshest and best I've ever had. It pairs well with the cherry wheat ale which is available during cherry season which typically ends in July so you might get lucky to catch some, if your into micro brewery's that is.

While your up in that area and if you like history stuff stop by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Very cool place. When I was there they had a film showing about the famed Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. There is an old lighthouse up there as well. Great place to spend a couple hours are so if your looking for a butt break.

I'm looking forward to reading about your trip. I've not rode the Canada side. Took it in a car years ago with the family before we had to have passports.

Thank you!

Just want to thank everyone here for the quick response and great suggestions.
Very cool to partake in this Road Glide forum.
Going to take my time going thru all the suggested links. The weather now in NY is terrible, rain sleet and snow.
Spring cannot come soon enough.
