So after almost a decade of riding on two wheels, I've never owned a leather jacket or chaps. I think it's about time to treat myself. I don't want to get a jacket or chaps that flakes or peels off like I see some people wearing. What brand or site has good leathers at a REASONABLE price? Lol Sure, ideal world I'd be wearing some sweet HD gear, but I ain't ready to shell out 600 bucks on gear I can only wear for 6 months out of the year (damn you Army for moving me to upstate NY)

Fox creek leather. US made Life time warranty priced right.
However if you want a HD one shop the sales . Some will argue it but HD does make some good jacket. One I have is 11 years old wife gave it to me as a gift. I wear it a lot for that reason still a great jacket.
Watch Fox creek for sales.

Avoid the junk for leather up . Unless you only plan to wear it once a year.
There will come a day the Army will not move you any more. Enjoy while you can.

I have a nice pair of chaps from First manufacturing. They are pretty decent and have held up through 7 seasons. And I ride year round.

My top half is protected by a Vanson Hardcore Highwayman, while not cheap, it is an amazing leather. With 31 measurements, it fits me like a second skin. Owned it for 10 years and don't see any end in sight.

I found a slightly used set from Craigslist 150 miles away. I asked for lots of pics and found out they had barely been worn. Willie G leather jacket and chaps that luckily were both my size for $250. I asked him to hold them for me until the weekend and I certainly wouldn't argue on his asking price. I used it for an excuse for my first road trip on the RG.

The best leather jacket I've owned is the Harley FXRG. I won't wear chaps, but there's a nice set of FXRG pants that I'd look into.

I've had nothing but problems with Fox Creek. Not a fan of their service or their product.

I spent 3-4 years in a pakistani leather jacket and only wore it when I absolutely had too because it was uncomfortable, stiff and weighed about 75 pounds. The wife bought me a HD one for some holiday, can't even remember which one. She found it on clearance so the price wasn't as outrageous as normal. Let me tell you, it changed my mind about Harley gear. Expensive, yes. Durable, comfortable and made for riding, yes. If you find it on sale I am now a believer. Just found the wife a pair of chaps on clearance yesterday, looking for a set for me. I own 2-3 other lightweight jackets I have found on the clearance rack. You can say a lot of things about the price, but the products are clearly designed for riding by people who understand what you need to be comfortable. And it lasts.

A lot of the decision depends on your body type.

Easy, or hard to fit ?

Jackets are a lot easier, than Chaps to get to fit correctly.

I wear a 52 jacket, not an easy fit as jackets go. Tried on quite a few, before I found a good fit I liked the look of.

Chaps, a different story. When I was looking, was 42 waist, 30 inseam, with a full size butt. Tried quite a few. Found a match at a rally, after getting a suggestion from one vendor, to go see another vendor.

Since then, I have determined I like crash bar chaps better. Cheaper, and roll up smaller.

I've worn the same 1st gear jacket through 3 bikes, 6 years. I bought the wife one too. Got both on sale at a great price. My problem is I'm 6'5" and have a hard time finding tall sizes. My jacket (4XLT) was regularly $550, I picked it up for $100.00 on some closeout sale and it was either LeatherUp or motorcycle superstore.

Been riding here almost 4 decades and have only had one set of leathers. Some will tell you they are great in the cold weather or rain. I've lived in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Was able to make it just fine there with a good set of thermals and layering clothes. In Arkansas with the exception of snow and Ice I can still dress that way and ride year around,

On the rain side of things I have a set of those 30 some dollar Frogg Toggs that I carry with me for those just in case times. I Haven't used them because most of the time by the time if you stop to put them on you are already going to be wet, and most of the time you will ride though the rain in less than an hour, and will dry out shortly after that. Rain and getting a little wet is refreshing on those hot summer days. It cools you down for a bit.

I have two leather jackets, one fxrg and another slightly lighter Harley jacket. The fxrg is a great jacket, but is pretty warm in hot weather. The best thing to do if a person is on a budget is look for them used. They usually go for way less than half.

i must say i have owned a Fox Creek leather for the last almost 20 years now I recently bought an FXRG jacket used off of ebay. I liked it so much i picked up the textile jacket as well. Its nice to have choices. You can pick them up on ebay for pretty damn cheap. I personally would never spend that much on a jacket new but for just over $200 used i couldn't resist.

Your gonna make me start watching Ebay. My wife absolutely loves her HD fxrg. I still ride with the Pakistani Fonzie knock off. It is definitely time to upgrade to a fxrg.

Speaking of leathers, I have a jacket & chaps, & its got to be pretty damn chilly for me to wear the chaps, mainly cuz I bought them years ago in Sturgis, and they seem to have shrunk over the years. Ok, maybe not. Anyway, I've been looking at leather overpants, which seem to be a better option than chaps. Is anybody here wearing the overpants? If so, what brand, style, etc?

Thanks
Lil Chief
