I am heading out Next Thursday with a few buddies and have only planned the first 4 days of teh 11 day trip. I nat to ride the best roads in all of teh areas I am going to and have not done nearly enough research. It's time to get to work here.

I will be coming all the way up the coast of CA and into Oregon via hwy 199 to Klamath falls and Crater Lake. Staying near Crater lake and then across to Baker City. From there I have no plans. I want to do Hells Canyon and Hwy 21 in Idaho but past this point I have no idea where to go or what would be best. i want to stay of interstates as much as possible. Miles per day are not a big deal. 300 500 7100, the more the better. The goal is to ride. If anyone knows the area and has time to throw a quick google map together that would really help.

And if anyone lives in teh area and has time to take us on a ride or two we will happily take care of meals and such for you. Here is the map of what I have planned but the only part that is set in stone is up to Baker City. From there we can go anywhere as long as I get home around the 11-14 of July.

You'll have to pardon my buddy going to trip with me as he does not have a shark. I am sure he will get one soon if I keep giving him crap though. That batwing sure does look funny.

It looks like you've got an interesting route planned. If you can you should consider taking Hiway 1 north once you cross the Golden Gate bridge up to Ft. Bragg and then back over to Hiway 101. Hiway 199 is great until you get about 20 miles from Grants Pass. Then, it starts getting pretty mundane and there's more traffic and cops. Watch out for Oregon cops, they wear out pens...

The 2013 Hells Canyon Run is headquartered in Baker City on the weekend of July 12-15th. If you don't have reservations in Baker City for that weekend now, you won't be staying there then. The area around Baker City in NE Oregon has some fantastic riding - great roads and no traffic.

I'd love to show you some roads in Washington, but the GF and I will be out of town July 4-7. Here's some links for places to research great riding roads...

Thanks for the info. I am taking the coast all teh way up, not sure what the map shows. I've done the CA coast to the bay area numerous times but never on a bike north of there. I avhe reservations in Baker city and had no idea about the Hells Canyon rally. Just a few more days, I gotta get my act together this weekend.

It has been several years but I would not miss Hwy. 75 running north out of Boise to Stanley. Then 75 to 93 through Salmon over Lolo Pass. It is a good one. Some good riding around Mt. St. Helens too. Enjoy

Just a little farther north up HWY 9 is Hwy 20 out of Sedro Wooley it is one of best roads up here in the PNW. Not many towns in between so its around some great lakes and up and over the pass into some towns like Whinthrop and Twisp then you can end up in Spokane no problem with out hitting the interstate.

If you're going to be in Baker City and are going to go up to Hells Canyon I would go up to NF-39 which will take you up to Joseph OR. It's a paved forest service road and it's pretty awesome.
At Joseph you could go to Enterprise and catch HWY 3 North to Asotin Wa this road is generally in the AMA's top 10 roads list and shouldn't be missed if you like curves.
At Asotin it's a quick ride to Lewiston that would be the beginning of HWY 12 to Lolo Pass.

+1 on hwy 12 to Missoula...if you do come this way,I'll pm you my phone #,I live just south of Missoula and commute there everyday for work.Depending on the day,I'd love to go for a ride if I'm off work.

Not sure if you're going that far,but The beartooth is about a day's ride away from here, but it would by interstate. If you were to follow 93 north from Missoula for a day,you could do going to the sun road in Glacier, but that's a whole day right there.

Can someone map lolo to hwy 20 and back into Washington? I should have planned this weeks ago but it is not in my nature to be extremely organized. Hopefully Danglide will be take is in the right direction if he is not working. Thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated.
