Just got some new lights to install tonight. I recently had a buddy tell me the current lights were looking a dull shade of yellow.

The box says 2200+ lumens but the lights themselves have 3000 lumens written on them.

The reason your old lights had a yellowish ting the lamp element was tungsten. The LED's give of white light slightly different wavelength incandescence lamps. Plus the higher lumen output of the LED. Look good anyway.

I just picked up the H4 LED replacements for my RG. They have cooling fans on the back side of the bulb, so I was unable to re install the boots. Will that hurt anything by leaving them off?

What I don't know is how to adjust them. You must have to some how reach up from below and turn the adjustment bolts from the back side to set the alignment, as there is surely no way to adjust from the front. Mine seemed to be low before I changed them out to LED.

I would imagine that it would only be a problem if your ride in the rain frequently. There are instructions as a sticky on the home page for the lighting I believe that gives instruction on how to adjust the lights.

You are correct headlights on the RG are adjusted by three adjusting studs from the back of inner fairing. No adjust in front. It's not that hard to do.

installed the LED Pathfinder light bulbs. Could not get the boot back on without cutting it, so I left em off. The difference is unreal!!!!! Did the the upgrade to 10" Paul Yaffe OEM monkey bars at the same time. Now that was a pain in the a$$.

The Daymakers are definitely a better headlight in terms of fit and finish.

I recently purchased a set of Chinese bulbs, 2200 lumens that are working well, after some diligent tweaking. The problem with all of teh Chinese bulbs is that they are not a true H4 bulb. There is a small tab that is punched out on the bottom center of the H4 bulb that fits into a slot in the RG mount. With this tab missing the Chinese bulbs will still move around a bit. Also the dust boot will not go on, without modification, behind the bulb like it should.

My solution was to fit a piece of rubber from a rim strip over the stem of the bulb. I then put the plastic retainer on the bulb, and sandwiched the rubber strip between the retainer and the back of the reflector housing. I had to trim down the inner ring on the dust boot to get it over the back of the bulb, and cut it so that it would fit on the bulb. A piece of duct tap made it whole again.

I have to say that this is the best lighting that I have ever had on this ride. I truly can see again after being in the dark.

it seems to me, the biggest problem is the high beam LED. It's not set properly for the reflector. I can spot owls in the trees going down the road with them on but I've already lowered them to the point of losing distance on the low beams and still no projection down the road on high.

My high-beam has a tall oval beam that does shoot pretty high but I also get tons of distance down low as well. I adjust my lights for the low-beam only and I put it as high as I can without trying to blind oncoming drivers and when I use the high-beam it just adds to the incredible distance. My low-beam shines up to the bottom of the rear window or top of the trunk of most standard cars when I am about 2 car lengths behind them and don't shine into the rear view mirrors. This gives me plenty of light out front on low.
