Has anyone had this problem, twice started bike and drove down the street to stop sign and bike was in limp mode. turned and went back home turned off, waited a few minutes and restarted and everything was fine.
The only thing i can think of is did i start it before the engine light was off?? no stored codes.

what does it do in limp mode do u have a pc-v cause i just came home and it was like the tbw was messed up it wouldnt let me rev past 3000 rpm shut it off truned it on was able to get one the highway road it for an hour got gas turned it back on and everything was fine

I love this forum. First, we have someone talking about keeping their pants down, now we have someone going limp...

OH, hell, this is not about sex after all :mad:

Ok, here is what happened to me and my PCV on the Sportster. Seems I was not too careful where I put it under the seat, and it got pinched a bit. Bike started cutting out, would not start, when it did start, would not idle, when it got going it coughed like a ten pack a day smoker. I removed the seat and the damage was obvious, the PCV had a small dent in it.

I took it out, hooked it up to the laptop and it seemed ok. I took it apart only to find it was just a block of grey rubber. Wow, did I get ripped off??? :eek: Ok, the rubber encased the circuit card to protect it. Once it had time to re-orient it self (i.e. the dent worked it's way out), I put it back in the bike, and it is working (for now :eek:) Let's hope it stays that way.

Bottom line, check how you pack things under the seat. Make sure you are not pinching lines, modules, fingers (Ouch!). Things can get tight under there, and nothing ever seems to work like the instructions say they will.

No one seems to have a real definitive answer for you, neither do I. But, I will relate my experience with the same thing last week. I was riding through a parking lot and drove over one of those "tar snakes" that they use to fill cracks in concrete. It was a pretty good one and I felt the bump as the rear tire went over it. As luck would have it, I was applying the brakes at the same time the tire was rolling over the tar snake...so I felt it. Exactly at that point the throttle goes into the limp mode. It idles but that is all it does. I pull into a parking space and was gone for about an hour. My hope was that whatever happened, the bike had miraculously healed itself and I could get home and start the troublshooting. Luckily, the bike fired up and I rode the 25 miles home without incident. The next morning I starting looking for a culprit. The bike did not show any codes on the speedometer, so I was kinda flying by the seat of my pants for awhile. Next, I took off the aircleaner and checked the main plug-in. I pulled it off and it looked fine. Just for the duece of it I put a little bit of electrical grease on each pin and pushed the plug back into place. Still not satisfied, I traced the plug in wire to see where that would take me. Then all of a sudden, BINGO!. WHAT I saw was kind of shocking. There is a plastic plug of sorts that is attached to the wiring harness. It is attached to a piece of metal between the front jug and the rear jug, about half way up. The plastic plug had vibrated out of it's little hole and the wiring loom was resting up against the front jug, where it promply fried through the outside of the loom and burnt the insulation off the wires inside. I am not absolutely, positive that was what caused the problem of the bike going into limp mode, but for now that is the best explanation I can offer. I taped up the burnt loom and the wire inside and then plugged it back into it's rightful place. I have riden 500 miles since then without incident. If for no other reason, everyone who has a late model touring bike should check to make sure this wiring loom has not popped loose and is resting up against the front jug, where it will burn a hole through.

If you have no stored codes it would seem that the problem would be a add on such as a aftermarket fuel tuner.
