...Holy Crap!!

I just received and installed my factory lowers this afternoon and I can hardly believe what a smooth ride I now have. 6'3", 35 inseam, sloucher, half helmet, Badlander seat, KW12, HD deflectors. I doubt the lowers will be off very much.

If you are on the fence about getting these, FWIW, I highly recommend dropping the coin for them.

I was suprprised how much i like mine as well. I had them on when I bought the bike, but then took them off due to heat issues. They are back on now, and like you, I doubt they will be off much.

Lowers

They do make quite a difference. I bought the quick removal hardware for mine... waste of cash because I can see no reason I would want to take them off.

You will probably want to keep them on. I live in SoCal and the vented lowers let in plenty air when open. I thought about the removable hardware, but after this past season with them on through the Summer, I had no heat issues with the vents open. I don't think I'll be taking them off from now on... Just sayin.

While we are talking about lowers, we know the vented lowers will fit on the 2010's but does anyone know if the earlier (non-vented) sets will work?

two thumbs way up

I'll chime in on the lowers. Mine are on a '05 and are not vented. I leave em on all the time. Really hot days might get a bit uncomfortable in traffic but on the hiway with my feet out on the hiway pegs there is no problem at all.

I will say you guys with the newer RG's might want to invest in the small half moon deflector that goes under the triple tree between the forks...that stops ALOT of wind. Stock item on FLTR's until maybe '09 when they came out with the FLTX.

Im with you on that. I'd rather leave them on also. But that said, I had not heard about the release hardware option b4 now...just curious about them and their costs and wondering if anyone else that DID install them have actually liked it? If so, any comments or other advantages to having them...besides the cooling in summer heat wave's..?

Plus the "Quick Release" makes it easier to steal them.

I have the Non-Vented lowers on my 2009. I put the Chrome Vents from Classic Motorcycle Air Vents on my lowers. The vents can be purchased off eBay. Or directly from the web site.
I also had them on my last Ultra that had the Non-Vented Lowers. They make quite a difference. It just takes some thought to cut into lowers you just spent $500 to purchase.

quick release

The quick release hardware doesn't make them too easy to steal. They are not quick click and go type of latches. They still take some time to undo them but you do not need tools.

Good for cleaning. I do not worry about someone stealing them. If someone wants them... they will take them.

My lowers go back on this week sometime. We're expecting lows in the 40's later this week.
