Great write-up on how you came about your decisions and I agree 100% with the direction you are taking; researching what others have done, going about the mods in a pragmatic order, and getting right on the things that make the biggest impact for comfort and enjoyment. Bravo, sir. Now get out and ride. ;)

If you want lights to be seen and also light up the road well, consider getting a set of Clearwater Darla that mount on your front fender. They are designed to stay on all the time, you adjust the brightness to the level you want, and when you hit the high beams or horn, they go full brightness. I added them over the winter and I didn't want them on all the time, so I ran them through my Aux switch. Not cheap, but good quality isn't usually.
