While on a trip to the mountains I lost the cover over the water pump. They had traffic stopped on a road up to the Blue ridge Parkway to cut trees. They would clear the road so cars could pass but there were alot of cuttings on the road still as they were not done cutting. I believe that is where the cover was lost. Thinking a stick flipped up and hit the cover. Have been looking for a skid plate that would replace the plastic cover to protect the water pump.

It a bad design in my opinion. Clips are a couple of long bolts with butterfly nuts or something could hold that cover better. I lost mine and replaced it and grommets with stock. Thought about buying a spare
I have a 19 model year. I started looking for a replacement and thought about something better than a plastic cover. Only found skid plates for the newer bikes.
If I learn that others have had the same thing happen, I may make a plate to fit the older bikes. If you have something come up with the cover missing it could take out the pump or wires. As of now only know of two missing.
Never seen a skid plate but several covers on google, example...
