I'm going to buy a Madstad shield but I'm hung up on the size, 12" or 14". I'm 5-11, 32" inseam and use an airhawk pad 100% of the time. I currently use a 13" LRS shield and it rides right around my chin height and I'm happy with that. Madstad states that if I get the 12" I'd operate it at its highest adjustment to mimic what I have. Finally my question. If I get the 14" do I get the 3" adjustability they talk about in both directions? Can I drop it 3" lower than 14" and 3" higher also? Is madstad worth it?

I'm struggling with the same choices you are. I had a Madstad 13 on my 13 FLTRU, I loved it. Now I must choose between 12 and 14. I think because I'm a bit shorter than you are (5'-9"), I'm probably going to get a 12 and hope I can adjust it up a bit. I think these shields are definitely worth it. On my '13, I could smoke a cigar at 60MPH. Cant do that now with my LRS shield on my '17, I get hit in the face with ashes, sometimes hot. Not good. I'm assuming that I'll be able to do this on my '17 with a Madstad, that the aerodynamics of the new fairing haven't changed enough to preclude cigar smoking.

As for your other questions, I'd suggest another conversation with Madstad.

I am 6'1" and had both 11" and 13" outer shields for my 2012 and ran the 11" 90% of the time. Even though there was more air felt with the 11" it was smooth air and was a very pleasant ride. I only used the 13" in colder temps on longer rides. I would go for the shorter shield and ask Mark if when buy the shield if you can swap the outer out for the taller one if the shorter one is not working for you. I think he was doing that for a while. The other factor is if you ride 2 up and your passengers head is above yours they would be more comfortable with the taller shield. If you have the Rushmore RG I still think the 12" would be fine even for the passenger.

The Madstad is definitely worth it!

First: Is your Glide a 13-under or Rushmore? I’m 5’10 with a 29” inseam and had a 13” Madstad on my former 13 RGU. With your longer legs I would probably recommend the 12” normally but with The Airhawk pad the 14” might be the better choice. On the Rushmore I would probably lean toward a little sshorter to the 12”... you’re in a tough spot and could go either way...

Based on this with the Airhawk, I’d go taller with the 14”; that’s what I’m doing with mine when the weather breaks.

Im 5'11" 32 inseam, mustang solo which sets me up a hair from stock but back a bit. Mine measures 13.5 center and I can put it down enough to see well over and up enough to see completely through it. The angle can also dictate how high it is, lean it back its lower, forward, higher...

Im thinking I could go to a 12 with no issues, but the extra height is nice when it's a downpour...I have the light tint, looks great to me..but I think Id go with a clear if I was buying again...

5'6" here 31 inseam.

I did 12 inch Madstad. I ride and Airhawk on top of the Sundowner two up seat.

If you don't mind drilling 4 holes you can customize where the brackets bolt onto the backing mount. So the 12 will do a lot if you are not afraid of a drill.

Does it start looking goofy with a short windshield up higher than normal? How does it look on the bottom by the fairing?

I guess that depends on what you consider goofy

Even though i love my Madstad, i think it is uglier than a great apes ass. So to me moving it up did not change a thing. I only went up half an inch.

Thanks for the tip, used this yesterday and got me a 13" dark grey to switch out with my 14.5" light grey & 14.5" bronze shields. I like to give it a different look every now & then.

I'm 5' 11" with a 32" inseam and using a custom seat that is about 1" taller than the stock seat. I love my Madstad 12" shield. It's been great in all conditions (wind, rain, snow and Arizona heat). For me the Madstad was one of the top 3 mods that I made to my RGU. You won't regret buying a Madstad!
