All Madstad owners,

Whenever I put the shield up all the way, I get a wind noise. The sound is like if you ride in a car with all the widows close but one, and that one is open a very small crack. And only when I am doing 40 - 60. Lower I don't hear it and faster and the wind noise is louder. With it down I don't hear it.

Any else get this and what did you do to stop it?

Never heard it, but I hardly ever adjust my shield, and it's not all the way up.

Had the whistle years ago when I first got the Madstad 13". While playing with the angle to find the sweet spot. It would whistle when the angle was to flat (shield tipped back toward me too much). I found it works best at pretty much the same angle as the base and then adjust the height for how much air or rain protection is needed. I used to obsess over trying to get it just right using an angle finder app on my cell phone. Now I just eye ball it and go. Results are the same.

Play with the angle.

Check the edges, especially the bottom and feel if it has a straight cut with a sharp edge or more round. Mine had a whistle and after rolling a snake of masking tape and sticking it along the bottom of the shield to test it went away. I ended up carefully filing a more round edge along the bottom of the shield and it took care of it

Dan, maybe try dropping 1/2 -1"? Or changing angle a bit, I used to use 59-60 degrees.

Maybe double check mtg hardware is snug?

Is the whistle definitely coming from the windshield or maybe something else on fairing?

All tight. I even thought that it was torqued a little to one side, so I loosened all the hardware and tightened all in rotation partern. Didn't help.

I tried adjusting it down a little and it didn't help. I have to pushed the farthest forward right now. May try pulling it back a little. So far I like it all the way forward but if I have to move it bak to get rid of the whistle... or I might try to switch to the other shield. I don't remember it doing it. I don't remember having it up all the way either.... hmmm...

Yes also I went over everything else and didn't see anything out of place. I thought of putting on my old shield to see if it whistled. Then I could rule out the madstad. But haven't did that yet.

What do you mean by that. I had an idea and you might be saying the same thing.

get out a piece of masking tape about the length of the bottom of your shield and roll it up length wise. Or even a piece of door trim would work. Something to disrupt the flow of air across the bottom of the shield. a strip of door trim form your local auto store and you could use it later to replace the fairing trim if need be

Okay. I get you now. Thanks for the clarification. I will try it out to see if it helps. This noise is driving me crazy. Only way to not hear it is either ride really fast or really slow. And raising the radio volume does not help.

How about a call to MadStad and see what they have to say. Might save a little time and correct the issue. I have never experienced a whistle, I used the angle chart that they provided and just moved mine up and down based on the weather.

I switched back to the 11" shield I also got and it went away. I left the brackets where they were at as well so the angle was the same. So maybe this winter I will sand down the edges so the are round.

I'm going to try the door edge guard to see if it helps.
