I have a whirring almost metallic whistling sound coming from somewhere in the Rear I believe but only when in 2nd 3rd 4th and I give it some throttle. If I am cruising in 3rd and then twist the throttle it is pretty loud. Also seems much worse in the morning and then you can barely hear it once she warms up. Any thoughts?

I have already replaced the rear wheel bearings, rear belt pulley and the muffler rubber insert grommets. I am suspecting the belt but it does not look all that bad although it does have 71k miles on it but I have heard they should last 100k?

Changing the belt looks like a huge job for a maybe situation?

What year is the bike? I'd suspect that the inner primary bearing may be the culprit, especially if you already did wheel bearings

2009, I am still leaning towards the belt since it seems to quiet down once it warms up but I suppose it would not cost too much more to replace the inner bearing if replacing the belt anyway?

The entire primary and clutch has to be removed to replace the belt so yeah for a few more bucks it would be dumb not to do the bearing. The problem though may be the bearing race that's pressed onto the shaft. The bearing is pressed into the back of the inner primary and the race is preseed onto the shaft. It's recommended to replace the race when the bearing gets replaced. It's also a very good possibility that a bad bearing will ruin the race. At the very least inspect the bearing and race when you change the belt

Chances are it is NOT the belt! I had over a 100,000 miles on my 08 belt when I swapped it out and my original belt didn't have any cracks or break and it wasn't stretched.
In most cases a bad bearing in the primary will show up as a oil leak first because the bearing seal is going out.
There is a bearing in the rear pulley and it can go bad, I had to replace 3 rear pulley bearing on my bike. I would lift the rear wheel off the ground and rotate the wheel back and forth and see if you hear a noise that may be bearing related, you can also grab the rear pulley and see if there is any in/out movement which would indicate pulley bearing failure.

Im not arguing just making a statement. A bad inner primary bearing does not necessarily mean an oil leak. My 06 superglide made a hell of a racket which was the inner bearing but it didn't show any signs of an oil leak. Of course you will need to change the seal when or if the bearing gets replaced anyway

I am in Rochester, I have just had the rear off the ground and spun the tire by hand and with the throttle and the noise though much quieter than when 1st started seems to be coming from the primary area. Inner belt pulley or most likely the primary bearing.

I am currently burning about 1qt of oil every 1200 miles and the inside of my pipes look like chimney soot. Pretty sure the rings are leaking by but cannot be certain.

So would a bad inner primary bearing cause a noise only when getting on the throttle in 2nd 3rd 4th gears. Then after about 10 miles or so it all but goes away. May still be there but is much much quieter.

Just took the primary cover off and although the primary fluid was very murky and black I did not see any obvious problems. Not even sure what I was hoping to find.
