Plan to go for a ride up the Midland Trail thru West Virginia tomorrow (Monday). I am very excited about this trip. I have had to postpone it several times due to health issues. Now I feel good enough to attempt it!
When I was a kid, every once in awhile Dad would drag us up into the mountains where he was raised. Of course back then all there was to use was state roads. That is what I am going to do for old time sake. I am going to follow the Ohio River thru Ohio. Jumping on the Midland Trail up to Rainelle, WV. Then it will really get interesting! I will still have about 35 to 40 minutes to get back in the hills to the coal camp dad was raised in. To the best of my knowledge I have one aunt that still lives up there. I hope the rest of the locals don't mind me visiting again!
What is going to make this trip extra special is that when we made those trips way back then we were always in an old beat up clunker; this time I get to do it on my really nice 09 RG. For me, that should be so much fun and a chance to reflect on the hard work that has brought me to this point in my life. Sorry for all of those that believe the president when he says "you didn't build that". I did, by the grace of God, and will not succumb to his belief otherwise!
My plan is to just ride up there, maybe snap a few pix of the houses that my family members were raised in and come back home. All in the same day. As you guessed I am not going to make a lot of stops otherwise, but if a member close to Huntington or Charleston wants to meet for lunch I may be up for that! I think I will be coming thru those areas around lunchtime as I remember.
Also, if you would keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I make this trip I would appreciate it. Haven't done many trips to this point, so I need all the help I can get!:)

Wish we could meet up but work and family obligations today, and the entire week for that mater, have me close to home. Stay safe!

Sorry we couldn't meet up, but understand. Thanks for replying though. Hopefully there will be other chances to meet!

Made it!

Left the house at 7:15AM yesterday and got back at 10:30PM. 691.3 miles and I only had to lock up the ABS twice! Ironically enough the second time was about 6 miles from the house on the return trip. The poor raccoon didn't escape the wrath of the RG; but I tried.
The ride was a great experience and I thanked God all the way up and back; especially when I was travelling home in the dark. The trip reaffirmed that I have a great life and really would not trade it for anything. Okay, maybe a winning lottery ticket!
I didn’t stop much along the way for pix but will attach one of the RG next to one of the Murals in Portsmouth, Ohio. If you are ever in the area make sure to stop by that. The floodwall is painted with murals depicting the history of Portsmouth and is really cool. Unfortunately many of the very beautiful and architecturally featured buildings down there are getting run down though. :(
