CANCELLED - Midwest Road Glide Ride-In/Rally

NOTE: June 11th Meet CANCELLED due to lack of interest & weather.

OK all you midwest riders, we have preliminary plans for a midwestern Road Glide.Org meet&greet/Rally/Ride-in. I've been throwing around ideas with Frank at Drago's Bike Works about planning a gathering. We've come up with two dates at different locations and want your input...not that we'll listen but it sounds good!?! Just kidding

Both dates are scheduled for a Saturday at a northern Illinois location, but if some member from southern Wisconsin wants to lead a group of early Friday arrivers on a ride to HD museum and/or factory tour, we could plan that for the day before.

(1st Date) Saturday June 11th at Kegel's Harley Davidson's Biker Jam meet.
Frank will have a booth there, and from what he's described its a great one-day event with many other vendors, food&music, etc. Last year there was approx 3,500 attendees. Illinois State HOG Rally is same weekend, so there will be lots of Harleys scooting around, but it may make it harder to get a cheap motel room for anyone riding in from afar (book early if staying over night).

We would set a meet-up location(at local restaurant or motel), group leaves at 11AM-ish and ride over to Kegel's as a flesh-eating group of sharknoses...that should get some attention. Will try and get the official RG.Org flag but no promises on that...does it need to be officially unveiled at the national rally in Pittsburgh? If we got it, someone attending would have the offiicial task of getting it to the National Rally in Pittsburgh by July 14th.

(2nd date) Saturday June 25th at Drago's Bike Works (Frank's new shop) in Poplar Grove, IL (near Rockford)

More low-key event where Frank has offered to fire up the grill and supply some food/beer (BYO is also welcome). Tour the shop, shoot the sh!t, do burn-outs & wheelies, etc. Maybe he'll even fix someone's crap-azz bike...if he hasn't had too many beers by then. Starting at 11am until ??? Frank would probably be able to spend more one-on-one time with us if you have many detailed engine-mod dreams.

We'd plan an approx 5 to 6PM group ride to another semi-local location for dinner, etc. I will again defer that planning to someone who knows local roads and entertainment/food locations (I live approx 90 miles away from Frank's shop).

For anyone making a weekend on this date, on Sunday June 26th there is one of the infamous Walneck's Motorcycle Swap Meets at McHenry Fairgrounds (approx 1 hour distance to the east) that starts at 8AM if you want to find an obscure part, leather, etc.

So vote on which date/type of rally works better for you. We also need ride-group leaders that need to lead our school of sharknoses, no matter which date/location we choose. Please PM me or respond here, if you feel up to that task.

I've tried to check out other rallies and related events(Walnecks) so you'd know what else was happening the the area. Any other ideas (other than dates/locations), let's hear them...especially for those than know the northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin areas well.

I'm in for the early June date (Saturday the 11th?). I can do that one, and would be glad to escort anyone who wants to come up early and make a side trip to the Harley Museum in Milwaukee.

I can't make the second later date in June, already got other plans......

Perfect - I was planning a trip to the museum at that time anyway. So, either date works for me. I'd be more preferential to a date that includes a ride to the museum. :)

As of 4/5/11 at 4PM CST, we've had 107 readings of this thread, but only one vote.

If you want to influence when this event is held, don't forget to vote!

If you havn't been to the museum yet you're in for a treat. Went there last year and met up with dklanecky for lunch there.

Depending on work I might have to work until noon but I'm only about an hour and a half south so I could be there by 2 or so. Both sound like a good time.

Only two days left to vote on which date/location you want to meet up with Frank @ Drago Bike Works.

On either date there will be alot of great engine/drivetrain upgrade information floating around, and a chance to meet up with fellow RG owners.

Non-RG owners are also welcome, they may even be persuaded to join the fugly side. So bring your friends not matter what they ride!

Only a few hours left to vote on which date you want for the Midwest Road Glide Meet.

Right now the June 25th date at Dragos Bike Works is the front runner.

Sorry for the delay in getting back with info on this event. I was working very long hours at work and when I finally got a few days off I traveled to northern Wisconsin this weekend so I could ride my new-to-me 2008 Road Glide.

In the meantime, Frank & I have shot PMs back and forth, and he would really like to do this Road Glide Ride-In in conjunction with the June 11th Biker Jam event, so that will be the official date. I probably sent out this poll and info too early, since we only had 12 vote for a date.

Please read my first posting on this event, and we can solidify where we can meet up at approx 10am and get to meet face-to-face. Then at approx 11:15 we'll ride over to the Jam and meet up with Frank, check out the music, burn-out pit, etc. Then a ride mid/late-PM to get some dinner or whatever.

I'm not familiar with the Rockford area so anyone that knows of a biker-...opps...sharknose-friendly restaurant we could meet up in the morning, please chime in! It doesn't have to be near Kegel's HD, we need a some miles to stretch our legs & ride as a group.

Kegel's site shows the date of the event but no event detail yet. They state the 2011 Jam will be from noon until 8PM:
http://www.kegelmotorcycles.com/

Below I have included the 2010 event description so you have some idea of what happens there. I will update with the 2011 description when it becomes available.

2010 Biker Jam description: Charity ride signup 9:30-11am. Party is noon to 6pm. Bands: (1-6pm) Rollin' Whiskey followed by The Sensations. Bike show(1-3pm). Motorcycle skill demo starts at 3:15pm. Field games (3-5pm) Burn out pit. Food/drinks. 50/50 raffle. Vendors. Chance to win a 2010 Heritage Softail Classic and other prizes. Tickets available now at Kegel H-D. Benefits the Goldie Floberg Children's Center.

Here is a little more info on the Midwest RG Ride-In event on Saturday June 11th. I will create a new thread for this once a few more items are defined. Still need a AM meeting location as I was going to suggest the Tower Restaurant but that is the H.O.G. Rally headquarters. (ie anyone know the Rockford area well enough to suggest an 10AM meet-up location?).

1) Hutmo is planning on riding over for our midwest event and bringing the new RoadGlide.Org flag with him, so we all can sign the flag!

2) Kegel Harley-Davidson's Biker Jam is being held in conjunction with the 2011 Illinois H.O.G. Rally, so there should be plenty of Harleys cruising around. Here's info I found on the H.O.G. website:

Great American Biker Jam
Enjoy a ride in the morning and an afternoon of live entertainment, food, beverages, bike demonstrations, raffles and good times with Rockford's finest H.O.G. members and friends. Free Event! Plenty of parking!
