June 6th myself and a small group of my buddies are headed to Springfield to see one of my buddies Nam Marine buds, heading out thru Indiana and Illinois on rt 50,then down 1 then over to 3 then down to Cape Girardeau then down to 60,then 60 to Springfield this will be my first time in missouri, any places that we should see or stay away from in Missouri, then we will be heading down to Arkansas thru some of the Ozarks, then Memphis and back thru Tenn and KY taking a week.In no hurry going to try and stay of super slabs as much as possible,if there is a better route than 60 i am open for ideas.

Nice Ride for your trip

sj01fltri,

If you are going to hit route 3 I would suggest to bypass some of it and take The Bluff Rd./Rt. 6. I attached a map. The Fountain Inn is a bar, its nice to stop for a refreshment. I don't think it is marked on the road, but it is off Fountain Rd. If you look at the map and zoom in a bit you will see where the Rt.6/Bluff Rd. makes a 90 degree turn to the right and then a 90 degree turn to the left. Rather than making the second 90 degree turn you go straight down Fountain Rd. If you wait to get to Lisa's (bar/grill/restaurant) in Prairie Du Rocher, maybe 10 minutes further they have awesome fried chicken. After taking my father in law on this loop to Lisa's once he now rides there weekly in the summer. Before you get to Prairie Du Rocher you will pass some places they use to mine and the cool air coming out on a hot day is awesome. Many people pull off just to sit and enjoy the cool air.

If you are open to it I wouldn't mind hooking up for some of the Indiana portion. 50 is awesome, especially in SW Indiana around Paoli. Let me know and maybe we can coordinate a meeting place. And if you need anything, PM me and I can be there quick with a truck, tools, whatever.

If you have the time, drop down south and take 160 instead of 60. 60 is four lanes, divided, kinda boring but quick

160 is two lanes, twisty in spots, but certainly very scenic. Much better ride. There are others, but 160 runs parallel to 60 for almost the entire state. It will take you right into Springfield.

Bluff Road, as mentioned above, is a really nice alternative to IL-3. There is a spot where you might even get blasted by cold air.

Don't run over Armadillos when in Missouri......... Seriously, I hit one, and it almost took me down last summer

A stop in Trimble Tn can be fun if you want to try Full Throttle Saloon, Saloon Shine. https://www.google.com/maps/place/T...2!3m1!1s0x88793c25e028cd2d:0x61fb655d82e62558

When crossing from Tenn to Kentucky make sure to run up through the "Land between the Lakes" from South to North. Use Trace Road Rt 49 (Also known as "The Trace")

Lots of Deer, Elk, and Bison, and a beautiful ride. Keep your eyes open, the Elk consider the place theirs, and will sometimes just stand in the middle of the road, and make you go around. They are used to cars and bikes........ and not impress by how loud your horn is :D

To Bad your not planning your ride on the last weekend of June. I will be back from my deployment and we are planning on a several day ride through southern Missouri and into N/W Arkansas. Probably will go into Hot Springs and see what hopping. We will be hitting all the scenic back roads in that area. A lot of people don't realize how much good riding is down there.

160 is a much better ride than 60 all the way from Poplar Bluff to Springfield just depends on how much time you have. When you leave Springfield I love taking Hwy 65 to Ozark and then head east on 14 to Sparta. Nthen take 125 south. That will take you down to the Peel Ferry across Bull Shoals lake. It's a great ride.

Sj01fltri,

Sounds like your going to cross the Ohio at Cave in Rock. That's a nice ferry ride. I always turn back east on 60 at Marion KY and that is a beautiful 2 lane road. East 60 takes you to Sturgis KY, home of Little Sturgis Bike Rally. I have not been west of Marion yet so I can't speak on that. Also just north of Cave in Rock is Garden of the Gods park. Nice scenery there and doesn't require much time unless you want to hike.
