I recently ordered a set of Progressive monotube Front suspension for my 2013 RG. All they offered was standard height for that year and model. While waiting for it to arrive I got to reading about the lowered style on monotube. I don't understand this. The instructions say that in order to lower it 1 inch you add 1 spring, in order to lower it two inches you add two springs. Hos can ADDING extras springs lower the stance? Logic tells me that using SHORTER springs or less springs would be the way to lower it? I contacted Progressive and they told me if I wanted to lower it, I should have bought the lower style monotubes. I wrote back that the lowered version was not offered for my make and year, and then I heard nothing back from them. Can anyone explain to me how adding top out springs, lowers the bike? I was thinking I could install a spacer maybe to the standard height tubes. Or find the longer "lowering spring" I am just not fully understanding how this works. :confused:
Progressive told me that if I tried to lower using the stock monotube I would start bottoming out. I have a machine shop at my disposal, so I am not adverse to changing some internal parts to stop the bottoming.

I stuck with the stock height while adding a 21" front. I don't really know what you're talking about with adding springs. After installing my kit that don't really make sense to me either. But Progressive really seems to know what they are talking about. I got my kit from Hogpro with my wheel, I think they had the kits for lower than stock, maybe call and ask them? Either way, good luck.

I just did the install on my 2015. It does seem illogical that adding springs will lower the shock. But it does. My kit came with 6 top out springs (I just used two, one in each leg, to lower 1"). Lemme know if they'll work with your model year and I can send you a pair. Here's a picture of the 1" lowered comparison:

click on the options tab and you will see the lowering kit with springs. Kit # 31-2501 $439.95

I ran these lowered 2 inches in my 2008 FLTRi with a 21" wheel. They worked fantastic, stopped the front brake dive and the bike handled way better in my opinion.

I also ran the 440 series rear suspension as well and replaced the front motor mount and rear bushings with Glide Pro. I believe that the combination made of Progressive and Glide Pro made the bike handle so much better.

Did the same thing a couple months ago. I've lowered several bikes using progressive products & yes, logic would tell you that adding components would raise the suspension, but it's the opposite on these systems.

So it sounds like if I added a 1/8 or 1/2 inch spacer under the topping spring the standard kit came with, it would effectively lower it then? Maybe even washers would work. I cannot see the pics for some reason, all I see is a big "-" sign.
I sure would like to see the height difference between the lowered ones and standard.

The internals are different between the two monotubes. When the spring(s) is added to the dampening rod it will then raise the lower leg when the bolt is reinstalled, thus lowering the front end. Just some the install on mine, the lowered version put the frame down hill on my fltrx. Used such height version and it sets perfect.

When I installed my 21" wheel I wanted to stay as close to factory rake and trail as possible. Called Progressive's customer service and adding one spacer was their recommendation. I followed their recommendation and it sits like factory and the ride is perfect.

Are we measuring the total length of the strut? I want to make sure I am measuring correctly

2 different monotube kits Standard 31-2500 and Lower 31-2501.

Lowering 1” inch or 2” inches?...
- If lowering the fork 1” inch, install one of the long top-out springs on each Progressive Suspension Monotube cartridge assembly as shown (see figure 1)
AND three of the supplied “C” shaped preload spacers between the top of the fork spring and the upper spring seat
- If lowering the fork 2” inches, install one long top-out spring AND one short top-out spring on each Progressive Suspension Monotube cartridge assembly as shown and install NO preload spacers.

Pre-load fine tuning: Spacer length can be decreased to lower the ride
height and soften the ride or increased to raise the ride height and stiffen the ride.
Adjust in 1/4” increments.
