been read a lot about the Monroe air ride and I think I am going to go ahead with it on my bike, just wondering how much the belt tension is affected from aired right up to aired out?

Lowering the bike tightens the belt. So I would set it up a little lose (just a tad) at the height you will ride it the most when extended up so it doesn't stretch out the belt as much when you lay it out while parked. just my two cents

Its the opposite bud. Lowering your bike loosens the belt. Set your belt tension where you wanna be at ride height. When you lower your bike your moving the arc closer to the drive pulley caused buy the swing arm to final drive pulley offset.

is it very hard to adjust the tension of the belt?
if not then how do you do it?

Not hard at all ... I scribed a mark on my tension cam washers to the swing arm for a starting point , loosen the nut set the bike to my ride height and adjusted the belt to give me about 1/2" to 3/4" of deflection up and down on the belt and tightened the nut

Did mine a little differently. Found the point in the suspension travel where the belt was the tightest and set it for minimum deflection there. That way I know the belt would never be too tight anywhere in the travel and maybe snap or take out a bearing. 20k miles that way with no problems.
